SHEICO ECOLINE VS NJN - ELIOS

Hey guys,

Im looking to buy a new suit from Elios. What the agent recommended was either NJN neoprene or Sheico ecoline.

Could anyone shed some light into why I should buy one over the other?

The price difference is around 100 Euro. Has anyone ever used NJN or Sheico? Your comments would be appreciated.

Like you I'm also looking at getting an Elios suit. So far I've been completely baffled by the amount of choice on the Elios site, but bit by bit I'm getting to what I think I want.

Yes I have been on that site before! Still didn't really help me. I've spoken to a few friends and pros. What i chose was NJN neoprene. Open cell inside and smoothskin outside (3m).. Open cell is less durable but can flex and stretch a lot more and is also warmer. The other choice is the same material but nylon super stretch inside and smoothskin outside. This tends to be a lot more durable so i guess it depends and what type diving you'd like to do.

Also, for the open cell the people i spoke to said one day it will def tear but nothing a special glue cant fix

I don't see any benefit in having nylon internally and smoothskin inside, except maybe being slightly more durable. The damage to your suit is much more likely to happen on the outside from general wear and tear (assuming that you're careful whilst putting it on), so if anything, I'd go nylon on the outside. Also, open cell against the skin allows much less flushing so will be warmer. Nylon on the outer will hold water, so will be colder (due to evaporation) whilst you're out of the water, say on a boat, between dives. Smoothskin outer offers less friction (better hydrodynamicy) during the dive (if that's important to you). In addition, certain materials compress more than others unedr pressure (depth), so if depth performance is you thing then you'll probably want a low compression material and as thin as possible

To me the correct material depends on a few factors:

Purpose: Freedive and/or spearfishing/hunting
Environment: will you be near rocks or other objects that could damage the suit
Temperature: air and water temperature
Performance: Hydrodynamacy, compression, duration of dive session - thermal properties
Durability: are you happy to have a lower performance suit that will last longer

Hi Paul, thanks for answering.

The correct term is super elastic nylon on the inside (I made a mistake in previous post). This is just one of the suits the agent suggested to me, which I didnt go for.

I chose Open cell inside and smoothskin on the outside. The neoprene is NJN.

Have you bought a suit with that same configuration (smoothskin outside and open cell inside)? I'm still wondering whether I should go with open cell inside or nylon inside? I was recommended nylon inside but I get cold easily, so I wonder if I shouldn't go with open cell inside?

Awesome. Also, how long did it take for them to make it and ship it? They told me by email that it should take two weeks, but a friend who bought one years ago told me he had to wait a very long time. Thanks

I got my NJN suit in just over two weeks (19 days to be precise, including the two days trans-Atlantic shipping). Incredible quality so far, but I haven't used it in water yet.

I've been able to get a dozen dive sessions in with the suit. Build and fit are great and it is easy to get in and out of. It's on the warm side for 26-27 degree water. The smoothskin socks seem to slide a little in the footpockets but the footpockets are slightly oversized.

How do you make sure that no air is trapped inside the suit? I only just put it on for a bit earlier, and had a tiny bit of air stuck. I don't recall having that when diving with a non-custom made Beuchat Espadon Equipe.

Once you get in the water and do a warm up dive the air will come out.

FYI, with the nylon inside, it is much easier to put on when both the suit and your skin are dry. Also, it's much easier to take off when the smoothskin outside is wet rater than dry.

Get a polosub. Silly brand name, awesome suit. While my friend in the boat was shivering in his brand new elios, I was pretty toasted in my beat up polo

I have two wetsuits from Elios:

A 5mm superelastic lining inside / Lycra Camouflage Red-Green outside

A 3mm Nylon elastic green inside / Nylon Camouflage yellow-Green outside


The 5mm is much better IMO (stretchier so easier to put on/take off). I do reef/rock/shore spearfishing so I wanted a lining outside and the suits are warm enough by far so a lining inside was better for me (more robust). I am very happy with the quality, fit and durability. I reviewed them on my blog (link below) if you care to see.

The only thing I would change is add a protection on the buttocks region, it looks goofy but is a lifesaver when you need to rest and sit on sharp rocks.
