I found this spot right on the beach in about 6-10 feet of water. There are monster Crevalle Jacks, the biggest I have ever seen. How much of a fight do they put up when you dont stone them. The spot has a lot of old rusty bulkheads all over so I dont want to take my float out and get my floatline tangled or shredded. I also dont want to have to ditch my gun if I cant hold on. Any knowledge would be appreciated.

Shooting Big Jacks???

the other option will be a reel, but bear in mind the purpose of the reel is NOT to fight the fish like you do in angling/trolling, but rather to give out some line so that you can return to the surface without ditching the the gun, maybe this will be a better option, although there is still the possibility of the reel line getting tangled in the fight around these bulkheads and tearing off...then you loose a spear and fish rather then your gun and fish...
another key piece of advice is to try and shoot the fish with an immobilizer shot, i.e. a shot to the brain or the spine/lateal line so that it dies/immobilizes instantly..

Do not underestimate the power of a big jack!! In hawaii we get the opportunity to shoot some big boys (50-100+lbs and even the smaller ones 10-15lbs fight hard) and unless they are stoned you can expect a big fight. Be prepared to bend and even loose a few shafts. If they have something to swim around you can bet they will.
I would recomend a float and line. Maybe purchase a threaded line (blue or yellow) when targeting these guys.
Or the easiest way is to just stone um:blackeye
Ive seen a few stone shots (lucky shots) where the shaft hadnt even penatrated the head. The flopper never even reached the fish, only about 2 or 3 inches of the tip of the shaft. Moral? use a powerful gun! and get close.
