Shooting Mahi and Ono (wahoo) ... Do you really need a Slip tip?

DB's Titan of Tuna is correct in all respects.

Froma personal hard luck lesson, last year I was in Baja diving with good buddy Tim Hatler, owner of Palapas Ventana. I was using a Wong 55" carbon barreled Hybrid, 5/16" shaft with a Mori slip tip, mono and a reel. I was poking around the bouldered area North of Cerralvo Island for grouper and just getting a feel for the place.

So I'm at the surface just admiring the visibility and collecting my chi and a shape forms off to the side that finalizes in a stripped marlin of about 180 pounds. This thing parks itself 12 feet away and starts the light show. Now I had the gun to do it, the shaft would have been toast afterwards but the slip tip was up to it. My problem was that I was rigged with a reel and no floatline!!! I watched as a fish that I only see on the TV and over the bar counters, eases off in to the blue.:head

So this next month on my return, I'm removing the reels and going with a floatline/bungie for everything. Like Miles said, you never know what's going to come in and say hi.

The Hell you doing up in Canada, Miles?? PM me, mate.
