Hi Glenn,

Last year I had a 10 day vacation in So Cal and did a lot of research before the trip, so I have a few links that might be handy.

Here's one mostly for DIY divers (i.e. shore and small boat diving). A lot of smart posts and has information on conditions, including wave models etc.: http://diver.net/bbs/index.shtml

Shorediving.com has great information on sites. Here are two links that might be useful for your general area:
http://www.shorediving.com/Earth/USA_West/CalM/index.htm
http://www.shorediving.com/Earth/USA_West/CalS/index.htm

Here's a pretty nice site for shore conditions (wave-height, tides, swell direction, swell frequency etc. etc.)
http://facs.scripps.edu/cgi-bin/synopsis.pl

Good luck and there are lots of DB folks in So al. If you find some better links, I'm sure that they'd be interested.

I posted a question about So Cal conditions and got some good feed back on www.spearboard.com

here's the thread link
http://www.spearboard.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10306&highlight=reading+conditions

and pickup a copy of "Franko's Map of Los Angeles County Coast" I found one for $5 at a WestMarine... and it's a flip out map listing just about all the beach dives, snorkel, and surf spots in LA County
http://www.frankosmaps.com/

OH, and I almost forgot... Check out the California section of the LA Times, they list tides, swell, and visibility on the back page
