does anyone ever smoke the fish they catch? if its easier to do than i think i might be inclined to give it a shot, might give me a new taste of some of the fish out here...:p

Smoking fish

My buddy has his own smoker that he uses to preserve his extra fish. It is a pretty simple process, I think, but you do need to have a "smoker", and no, a bong wont do.
Ive eaten yellowtail and albacore that was smoked and it is really good. I dont believe simple smokers are too expensive, but I am not really sure.

Oh yeah!!!

Getting a smoker involves two really important things- shooting calicos, and inviting me!

Serious, you lob a couple calicos or some albies on a slow burning pile of oak chips, have some salsa nearby and some Sun, it's all good!

Smokers are cheap at Sportmart, Orchard Supply and in catalogs like Cabela's. Get the recipe/instruction book that comes with them and start experimenting.

sven can come shoot calicos with me

i think i might invest in one of these - sven get down here, 2 hours in the kelp and well have enough of the things to last two days, theyre everywhere...

smoking fish

Tried to smoke a makarel once but had trouble keeping it lit.:hmm

Cheers, Guy

I smoke a LOT of grouper when I'm in the Gulf . the slower the better. I use an electric Smoker make unknown, but soak the chips overnight and use a low setting, took about 5 hours for 10lbs of fish, but it was worth the wait. I would rub chyanne (spelling?) pepper into the skin before I put it on. Mesquitte chips are wicked good.
