I went freediving with a fairly new to the sport guy last weekend. He had previously done a little freediving in a Florida spring and on a trip to the Bahamas. We went to the local quarry (Gilboa quarry). We spent a total of 4 hrs in the water with about a 30 minute break in the middle. Most of his dives were in the 20-40 ft range with plenty of surface time between dives. No dive lasted longer than one minute 15 secs with most of them shorter than that. There were three deeper dives to 67 ft but once again plenty of surface time and less than one minute dive time. The next day I called him to see how he liked it (he said he loved it) but told me that evening about 4 hours after we did our last dive his upper arms and shoulder area developed pain. He described it as a dull pain but said it really hurt. He said he also got a little nauseous. It lasted all night and worried him quite a bit but was completely gone the next morning. He was wearing a Mares 5mm scuba suit he had bought at a garage sale it has the velcro straps at the shoulders and I had to help him put the straps on as it was quite tight fitting in the shoulder area. He was wondering if maybe there had been a circulation problem from the tight fit or if it was something else? He was concerned he had gotten bent, which I told him I did not think was possible from what he had done that day. Any ideas or thoughts? He wants to dive again but wants to avoid this problem!
