Anyone able to report how the water's looking in Torbay at the moment please? Is it algal bloom all over?

hi,

Cant comment much on the shore sites. I dived on tuesday after work off of teignmouth (a few miles off)

there was a few meters viz down to about 5 meters - after that it was lights out and the bloom was so thick.

I did speak to another diver who has been to thatchers rock on tuesday and he said its was a murky 1.5 to 2 meters,

very little diving for me this season. It seems im able to ride a bike fast, cycling opening up some doors. diving taking the back seat this year, to hard to find to do the both and same level.

I doubt will do any dive comps this year.

I'm up for the BBQ. Are we meeting up beforehand for a dive? I can't bring my boat to this one. My car was written off, and the replacement they have given me is rather expensive. I don't think they would like me strapping a 12ft Avon to the roof. rofl

I decided to have a go this morning. I got in and it was thick bloom and therefore shocking viz. Getting underneath it helped a little, but it was hard work. I bought a new gun last week and when I shot it for the 1st time last Sunday it went through a Mullet but it kept on going into the bloom. The guy at the shop replaced it for me which was very kind. But strangely on one dive today onto the sand below I saw a spear! it was not the one I lost but it was a welcome addition. Wierd how that happens especially when you cant see your gun tip.

Hi Dan,

Probably no diving for me as I got 28 days of pills to chomp through and some steroids to take to stop my eyes closing involuntarily underwater!!!

Unless the wife says different though, I will have one of the boats out that day and people are welcome to use my diesel winch on the beach if they wish, that day.

Hoping to get my RIB sorted by then.

Vis update Went in the bay this after noon it was bad with may water but around past babbaombe there was 2/3mtrs vis no fish but had another lobby out of my hole (5.5ibs) finished up going mackereling in the end got 8 hope this helps some of you Dave

I tried Seaton again today. 3m vis in close but thick with bloom as soon as I got into any depth. A huge mullet passed me at speed in the bloom but nothing shot. Spider crab eaten with chilli and pasta was a consolation though.

went in at budleigh today bloom very thick so went over to the reef was a little better dived down and had a nice bass come in stopped to see what i was doing went to shoot but had the safety on never use it so must have knocked it somehow very frustrating would have been the first of the year did manage a 3lb 9oz cuttle which was very nice for tea
hope the bloom is better for next weekend because it really isnt good at the moment
