Hi All,

Went don to my winch earlier and a couple of the others from the syndicate were coming in as I arrived. They'd had two bass, many herring amongst the mackerel and quite a few good crabs from the pots. The wave turning on the beach though was filthy, almost orange.

I had a nice dive yesterday afternoon at my favourite lobster spot. Low tide, flat calm water (a balmy 12deg!) and not too much bloom. Found a couple of new holes, one of which is holding the biggest lobster I have ever seen on a shore dive. Its going to be a mission to get him out. The hole is under an overhang and I had to go in up to my waist, holding the end of my spear and I could just reach him. He isn't going to come out of there without a fight.
Swimming around the string-weed, I saw a few small bass and pollock, but nothing worth taking. Finished the dive with a nice 3lb lobster.
Off for a night dive tonight to try my new pole-spear.

Good luck with it. It would be great to see some photos or video of it if that's possible without spoiling your chances. Maybe someone else could do the camera work. I'd love to see other peoples techniques for getting out lobsters and I'd bet I'm not the only one.

went in today at a new spot cheers for the advice scott and trelawney great ground found massive kelp beds missed a nice cuttle as my line got tangled saw alot of pollock chasing bait fish took two of the bigger ones for tea didnt see any bass or mullet but the ground looked as if they should have been there will be giving it another go there very soon amazing vis aswell 8metres i would say

Just got back from spending Sat in Swindon (after my early dip) and Sunday in Yate :-( I love my job but when you know everyone is in the sea and your indoors in the heat it's frustrating. I'm lucky that the Shiny1 gives me the places he's discovered after his whole life fishing/spearing and I am grateful. I cant expect him to tell me where the bass are as well I guess. I did have 3 mullet from the spot he showed me. It was lovely Sat morning and I could have stayed there and chilled with all my heart but while he was getting in i had to get myself up the road. I'll probably get in tomorrow or Tuesday (or both) BUT!! I have the start of my 1st ear infection which is good going for me after being in about 7 times. Great to see everyone having successful dives, and good posts. The Basking sharks are awesome but you can keep em.

hi all got up today and the sun was out again well off to the spot paul and i went to 10 days ago east devon fingers crossed . Got there looked great got into the water not good a bit of may water but all right. On to the reef just make the bottom at 7mtrs started lookinging in holes not much in . Moved on bottom time good 2 mins plus feeling good started a dive big rock in front of me under i went looking at the tail of a big one shoot o no hit it its gone out the other end . I swim to the fish to make shore the spear is in its ok but myself its time to go to the surface , so i leave the gun and fish this could be the last time i see my woody gun and the fish dived again after about two mins there is he gun hanging out of the hole with the fish so glad to see it i finished up with two bass and a mullett what a day (bass 8ib 11oz)

hi sun fish its one we made our self . The guy i dive with(Billy the fish) is great with wood its a omer handle and a rob allen muzzel i will put up a pic for you to look at asap Daveo

Hi all went for a dive on sunday did see lost of mullets on the edge of the viz the bloom is bad in some part of the bay did see one bass could not gett a shoot whent home with 2 mullets
went tonight late came across 3lb lobster on top the kelp as a came back upp 2 bass came upp i was face with problem did not have my catch bag with me:headand i did not want to back to the car so i wadge the loby in a hole for later so the bass hunt sarted whent to my favorite spot 1 dive bass shot miss:headbut lady luck was on my side afer that went home wen dark with 6 bass and 1 lobster verry verry happy with that

Went to bigbury over the weekend with some mates to get burned in the nice weather. took my spearing gear down and succeed in catching my first fish A small wrasse just to see what it tasted like. turns out i dont like wrasse so i wont be shooting any more of them. also saw hundreds of small Pollock that i did not seem to e able to hit. cant wait to get in again. i also went for a night dive with my new torch ziptied on to my muzzle and a camera ziptied onto the back, which produced surprisingly good footage.

Hi superdude. You never know unless you try hey how was the viz?

When you say small.... how small are we talking???? Ive dived that area and had my catches checked by the men with clipboards ( fisheries) many a time. they come down on you like a ton of bricks if you caught with undersize fish and a hefty fine will follow.

Bigbury is also part of a bass nursery so they are around

hey, yea exactly thats what i thought, and also why i only took a small one about 25cm long i reckon. i found it hard to gauge size in the water but i got some advice from my mate saying if i dont think i could take a fillet off it dont shoot it which seems pretty sound. i didnt see any bass around but thats probably due to my short bottom time and maybe needing a couple more kilos on the weight belt. the vis was patchy due to plankton ut up to maybe 4m in some areas. saw a lot of life around though including a massive spider that had its arms right round a crab pot. and the water is still cold, i only managed an hour in my surf suit before i had to get out.

25 cm wrasse are best left alone but a massive spider is always worth bringing home
