Next question. When is the closed season on gill netters, greedy trawlers and over zealous commercials on breeding bass? Does anyone have those dates??????????????????????????????????????????

As Dave has said 1st July till 1st October so seasons open :friday:friday:friday.


although you wont be getting any around the bay for a while unless you have x ray vision there is no viz anywhere :head:head:head and wont be for a long time if these easterlies stick around

Viz is very bad up this way Scott.
Hoping the easterlys will die down soon and hope we don't get too much rain.
Just back from the north coast and the viz looked terrible up there as well.
The bass are out there getting fatter!

Go around the corner from the breakwater, saw a lovely bass in the swimming pool at Shoalstone once! Should be some viz in the shallow end LOLroflroflrofl

Hi all took a chance today went to bigbury for a dive .Got there didnt look that good alwell i am here now lets get in . Looked to the left surfers in the water not a good sign, got into the water looks ok .Made the swim to the outer reef started diving vis about 2mtrs got a little better in the deeper water. As you can see finished up with 1 bass 3 1/4 lbs 5 mullet biggest 3 1/4lbs a good afternoon

I got in for the 1st time in ages today. I managed to beat my recent PB bass of 7lb 1oz with a nice 8lb 15oz fish, I had another of 4lb 13oz. I had to stop off at Shiny1's house to tell him of the one I missed. I was messing with my float so I put the safety on (you all know what is coming) I was finning over the kelp and happened on a huge bass, the biggest I have seen. Maybe double figures I don't know but I am convinced it was bigger then the 8lb 15oz one I took home. My spear tip was a foot from the back of his head, I squeeze the trigger.....nothing. I was gutted but hey ho. The viz was not great but better in the deeper water. I'll post a pic of the fish tomorrow.

Bish, well done on the fish, and of the one that got away... interesting that you used the safety, it seems there are mixed ideas about them. e.g guns going off when the safety is released, not being reliable, etc. maybe thats just 'big' guns, but peronally i only consider my gun safe when the bands are off. any one else got any ideas on this? sorry, not having a dig bish

As for safety I’m with Jonny, the only safe gun is one that’s not loaded.

Don't worry about the one that got away.
As for safety, well I suppose if you want to be sure, unload the gun. That way when you return to the hunt you are unlikely to pull the trigger and find you have forgot to load. I don't know of anyone who has missed a fish because they forgot to load.
Look on the bright side you got two good fish.

well done on the fish, and I use the safety too and only once missed a shot because of it. But do it once, youll never do it again

I'm always forgetting to take the safety off - often with similar outcomes (I try to avoid using it as much as possible now, for that very reason).

Just seen BBC news web page and a srearo was walking down to Brighton beach, he was fully kitted up and carrying his gun he was arrested and taken to the nick for questioning.
