Nice flatties of late Scott and nice photo's and a good post. We dont get many in depth posts these days. Come on Nick give us a good write up and a picture or video before you hit them warmer waters later this week.

Mark has a good point.
I think people can be a bit reluctant to post when they don't catch anything or they just make a brief comment.
But really some of the best posts are when nothing is caught, then you have to elaborate on the dive, the conditions, what was seen etc.
Sometimes this brings out the prose writer in people, you can't say 'caught a fish it weighed blah blah', more description is needed to fill the post.

Besides, it makes me feel better when others don't catch fish either.

cheers Guys it was a good dive and made a nice change from full on spearing... although a good spearo session is hard to beat

I cant take the credit for the pics as Dan Bolt took them . He's got a good eye for photography, he's also got a great sense of humour as you will see with the pictures of me on my boat roflroflrofl

Its always nice to see reports on here with or without fish so keep em coming.

Bish I reckon Nick will have sleepless nights soon with that trip coming up the Lucky bugger !!!!!!

We can look fwd to some decent footage from Nick him I hope. He's feeling fit and bang up for it, so I hope he gets some great catches for the memory bank. I got in today, pants viz but got a decent flattie on the way out, and missed to others :-/ trying to stab them

I always think of Podge when we get flatties, I know he loves them. It will be good to see Podge again, maybe Nick and I will catch up with him next year when he heads to Cornwall. There is a rumour going around that he likes to try the ale.

Mate your spot on with the Flatfish; I’d much sooner have a nice plump Plaice than a dirty great Bass anytime. As for a little drinky, I don’t know what you mean? Me let the evil amber nectar past my lips? It’s all for the good of others you know as I should hate for someone to have a bad pint just because I didn’t try one out of the barrel first.:friday:friday

Hi All,

Late post but it's been a busy day. Well, to start the day the phone rang and Crazywind009 was calling. An hour later the jeep was packed and driving over the pebbles to my boat on the beach (much to the annoyance of the PC squad, Great stuff!). Having checked the winch would fire up after the heavy frost, it spluttered into life and was left to run as we hauled the boat and kit down the beach. All set at the wateres edge looking at the Easterly ground swell rising and breaking on the beach when I realised that the engine would work a lot more efficiently with petrol going through it!!! A quick drive home and back saw the fuel tank attached and we were off! Quickly suiting up and running down tide towards our mark for the day when we noticed the dreaded red flags flying! They toffs were firing on the range so no fishing there for us. Moved to the back up mark dropped anchor over our rock mark in 5ft of water. To make the point of how low the tide was - part of the chain of the anchor was still in the boat and the anchor was down and holding. The reef was nearly showing in the bay. Olivier was ready to rock and splashed over rapidly to many screams and expletives! I wondered what the hell had happended until he shouted up and then rolled over in the water to show the huge hole he had just ripped out the arse of his suit. He'd snagged himself on my pot hauling tube end as he'd dropped over and the end result wasn't pretty! Only pretty funny!
Anywho after nealy two hours we converged back on the boat having worked the reef sides and rises separately. Oli had found more fish and had an awesome wrasse, a really solid fish. He'd found a hole and wriggled a bass and some mullet out and I came back with the only fish i'd seen, a humble grey shot from directly above, straight through the head whilst he was resting in a crevice.

I had seen a massive tail cruise over me in the gloom on my first dive and I still reckon now that it was a seatrout?

To conclude, given the wind direction and the river output our viz was pretty good today and the water quite doable. We'll be back in again, not giving up yet for winter though Oli may have to sort his posterior out before hand.

Staying down your neck of the woods from friday evening for a week. Staying at Challaborough bay. Looks like the Southwesterlies are going to kill any chance of vis in that imeadeate area.
Can any of you guys point me in the right direction for a spot in these Southwesterlies? I have a whole week to pretty much spearo and beach fish. PM if you like.

Lee - from Challaborough what about on the other side of Burgh Island (so long as the avon isn't in spate). Or have a go down at Babbacombe or Newtons cove they should be pretty sheltered from south westerlies... but if there has been alot of rain it might be mucky anyway.

Hey ryan . Babbacombe is a bubble blowers haven mate. It pays to be a bit discrete if theres a lesson or training going on but ive never had a problem with them.

I park in the carpark near the toilets and dive the outside of the stone pier. Can be a good mullet spot

Budleigh no! But there are bass in the area (been out with the rod of late) Bream are still in at Weymouth too!

Lost a large ray of the rod tonight... gutted. I've had them from a local spot up to 8lb and this one felt immense compared to them. It's an area I reckon would be spearable to so noted for the better weather.

Scott - Would shoalstone area hold some viz?

Brixham holds viz for the first and second day of strong southerly s then all the dirt works its way around into the breakwater area and it becomes like soup.

the dredgers work that area heavily when there's southerly s and have been all week. It breaks my heart to watch, they were so close the other day I could of pissed onto the wheelhouse BUT you never know unless you try I know I wont be.
