Hi all went in yesterday I stay 10 minutes in budleigh THE VIZ WAS TERRIBLE got frustrated move on to a other spot but with a 4m tide raging it was never going to be easy did go home with 2 mullets and 1 bass not the best day

To much fresh water out from exmouth and budleigh mate the water very milky and with the big tide you need to get your timing right or you could be in big trouble

Yea good point, don't fancy getting caught out. I was thinking heading down to beer or something as an alternative. Looked like gin the last time I was down there (without my gear typically). Anyone been in around there before?

Well... Went for a dive after work- my mate thought beer might be worth a shot.....it wasn't.
After a bit of faffing around trying to get my fins on over my new (possibly too thick) socks, much to the amusement of some holidaymakers, we were greeted by the worst viz I think I have ever seen (or not seen?) we thought we might as well just have a swim for a bit anyway as we were wet, uneventful to say the least!
Really wish my first proper dive with my gun had been a little more productive- didn't even take it off of my float!
Apologies my first dive report is such a depressing one but if I save even one spearo a journey into pea soup, then it wasn't all in vain!

Has anyone speared haybrook bay before ? Been hearing a lot about it and sounds an interesting dive with plenty of results ... Would be nice to know if someone has been from off here and if so what did you think of it ? Thanks Jon

Heybrook is a good spot for some and a bad place for others. Like all spots the more you dive it the better you get to know it. Watch out for Gill nets this time of year. Just look for bouys then have a quick look to see if its pots or nets. They are normaly out a long way so dont worry to much about them. It will fish all tides.

I've seen a lot of trigger fish being caught but never actually seen one! Where are they normall found? Is it in deeper water?

They are known to cohabit with wellies so check out and holes that you know are popular with boots

I had a extra catch when i shot and speared a Trigger from a hole.

Yep it was a tuff as old boots when i tried to fillet it!!

Hi just wondering what winds should I avoid around Plymouth and wat winds are best for good vis

Light Northerly and westerly winds are the best for most area's Matt.

Torbay is good in most apart from an easterly which will write off the bay and most of the surrounding coastline. most common viz up this way is between 1.5 and 4 meters

Plymouth has far better viz and you can always find a spot in most winds apart from strong southerly's.

Im sure the guys in Plymouth can point you in the right diretion for a dive wind depending.

Bigbury yesterday = 1m at best. Couldn't see the end of the gun. Also my friend lost a black cressi snorkel.

Saw another spearo on the way down the slip and when we told him about the viz he about turned and went home - it was dire.

We popped back in at low tide to try and find the snorkel (to no avail) and there were a number of very small mullet / bass about.

Got wet yesterday. After the talk of triggers i decided to go for triggers but the vis was really bad so had a change of plan and try the spot i had the balck bream on my last trip. Again the vis wasnt great but alot better than the first spot. I had mullet right away followed by bass. I had black bream come in with the bass but just kept there distance. I held on for what seemed like eternity in the hope of a shot,leaving the bass and mullet that were all in range in front of me. This i done 3 or 4 times with no luck. I did manage 2 bream in the end,both taken after i spooked them while hunting the kelp for bass. Lots of big mullet around today and a few taken. Biggest bass today was 8lbs,bream 2lb10oz,mullet 5lb10oz. I didnt weigh the plaice.
