Got in this morning, 2 reasonable bass and a 1/2 decent pollock. Viz much better in the bright sunshine. Lots of bass around, missed a few big fish which were easy shots... :head
One decent spider crab taken too.
Also a couple of shoals of smaller bass seen too, no mullet for once though.

Read in the Western Morning News this morning that an illegal gill net was found between Looe and the island it had 60+ bass and 70+ wrasse in it , I am probably diving there tomorrow so the bass will be a bit low in numbers I suspect . I am amazed any one can put out nets like these and not expect to be seen as so many people are always looking out to sea , I nearly always feel some one is watching me whilst out and about on the water ( in a good way ! ) as so many people who live on the coast have telescopes/binoculars etc ,other water users etc ,maybe they did it under cover of darkness ? I do not think anyone has been caught yet . The same sort of net caused problems at HMS scylla back in winter so it must be going on in this area quite a bit .
Mate thats not the first time this year its happened,i know of 2 other times nets have been lifted there. Its a on going problem,they loose a net one night then come back again the next night with a net. The EA are not interested most of the time unless the word SALMON is mentioned.
The net on the scylla was a different sort of net than the type the netters use at night. Its the time of year when the bass are in close and the netters are out in numbers.

Hi,
I am heading to Torquay next weekend 28th July, will be there for a few days visiting relatives. Although I know the area for sailing and surfing, where should I head for spearfishing - I've swam a lot at meadfoot and not convinced its that great? Last time I drove over to bigbury and had a decent sized wrasse and flattie, but wanted to explore more local to Torquay. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Livermead / natural arch 1 - 2 m max
Having withdrawals from No go at Teignmouth so I thought on my way home I'd give it a go
- yep you guessed 0 viz. With the colour of the teign, I think it will be that way for quite a while
Had a decent bass swim into me & then he was gone.
2 mullet taken first thing in Torquay but nothing special in size.

I took a trip to Looe today ,went by kayak as far as Polperro diving many spots on the way there and back and absolutely nothing seen!! vis was not great 3 metres /milky green ,great weather and useful practice as not been in much this year but would of been happier if I had something to eat !! at least there is no chance of me outgrowing my wetsuit !!!
mate the stretch from the banjo pier to the island is good. tide can be a bit harsh at times tho

Went for my first real go looking for Plaice yeaterday. The vis was very good below 3m. On the first dive of the day i had the biggest fish of the day a 4lb14oz plaice. I didnt stay in long,only doing a small area and end the afternoon with 6 plaice and a nice size brown crab.

I tried the island/headland at St Ives today, a nice spider, a nice brown crab, 2 medium mullet and a decent pollock. No bass seen, but a big grey seal got so friendly, i thought i had pulled 
Shiny1, where can i find flatties! Clearly you won't tell me the best spots but a steer on depth and type of ground would be appreciated

Got in for a late afternoon dive today. The vis was patchy in places and down to 2m. In the deeper water it was better once down below 5m. A mixed catch today of bass plaice lobster and a small turbot which i wouldnt of taken normaly. He was that well buried,all i could see was a pair of eyes. I pushed the spear in thinking it was a plaice. He's big enough to eat so will not be wasted.

Keen lurker on this forum but don't post much. Find all the banter and tips really useful and thought I would show some of my successes.
Got in Thurlstone way on sunday, been there a couple of times but never found it that fishy, both times on a falling tide. Don't know if anyone finds it better at a certain time of the tide?
Thought I would do some crustacean hunting instead and picked up this beauty. A smidgen over 2kg! Bit of a grumpy bugger as he crushed a decent size spider I had in the same bag on the way back to shore, one pincer grip straight the way through the spider's shell!
Thought as I was posting I would put up a pick of a monster lobster I caught last year as well (4.1Kg). Sadly I had no paper on either occasion for entering fish of the month
