I’m also Sussex/Surrey - looking to get into spear fishing but not done any yet so will hit you up once I get some experience. Any recommendations on how to best get started or clubs are welcome

The BSA sussex club has been reformed as part of the southsea (sussex and southsea) club. Lots of sussex spearos in the LIC as well.
Brighton Spearfishing on Facebook is a great resource also.
I dive Sussex regularly, give me a message: might be able to get some dives in depending on schedules.
