Hallo y‘all
Im on my first time Spearfishing trip in Thassos Greece.(First time Spearfishing I’m general) I would like to know if you know some good shore spots to go to and if you maybe are or know some local which could take me with him.
Thanks for any answer and have good day where ever you are
So many islands here I had to look up Thassos/Θάσος.
On Crete I find the most fish at headlands, places with current and windy shores. The sheltered south coast with *deep* water and calm bays never have anything. But I hunt mostly the smaller reef fish like skaros (parrotfish), germanos (spinefoot) and leontopsaro (lionfish).
See if there is a fishing store in the town and ask there. They won't tell you where to go in detail, but they might tell you which side of the island has certain types of fish.
I included a list of minimum fish-sizes below but the lists on the internet are old and might be outdated, so ask the local coast guard. In general it's: max 1 grouper per day (min.45cm) and the rest not under 20cm. Max 5kg/day or 1 fish over 5kg (so you can catch a 10 kg fish after you caught 4kg of other fish, but not the other way around.) No flashlight, also not during the day.
Use a visible buoy! The fines are hefty, but it's also a lot safer with all the boats around.
** Beware of the λαγοκέφαλοσ (Lagocephalus sceleratus) as its meat is poisonous. **
