Hi all I am new to the sport, my name is Charlie. I am looking for someone with some knowledge on if it is 100% legal and if the police care. my suspicion is they dont, but someone with some local knowledge would be great - also is anyone here looking for a partner in that area?

Yeah you can spear, I’ve been many times. There is a spearo shop in Academic city; guys are good help and they all shore dive. I always go on a charter for mine, I’m not willing to risk the crazy jetski assholes or terrible boaties near the shore. I think only a few weeks ago someone got their legged chopped up by a prop. It’s very easy next to the rock walls, depth max you’ll have to dive here EVER is about 25m. Lots of wrecks. Spanish mackerel (called king mackerel here) are plenty and big golden trevally. The barracudas are EVERYWHERE and great practice for a newbie. They’re big, fast and not aggressive like they are in other parts of the world. There are also big cobia here.
