Spearfishing near Santa Cruz/Monterey

Hey new to the Santa Cruz/Monterey area and was wondering if anyone knew some good spots. Also, if you are down and in the area, let me if you want another dive partner.

Aren't the kelp forests all gone now? That was where the fish were.
 
A good start would be to contact the Monterey Bay Tritons. I think they are a pretty active club.
