Getting out of the water into a boat is a different matter - but still a long session overall. And to be in an open-cell wetsuit. Quite a committment with no toilets nearby! I think the most I have done - without getting out of the water - is about 4 hours and that seems enough. Although I suppose folk waiting on shore for me is usually the main time constraint and probably after than tiredness (if dealing with currents), dehydration (I carry water now though), seasickness (in choppy conditions/swell) or poor conditions (no viz., no sea life - although I've learnt the latter should be ignored because sometimes good fish show up after a few hours of nothing).

I think staying out for huge amounts of time without even a quick break could be very dangerous - exhaustion & dehydration leads to impaired decision making. I rarely stay in the water for more than 2 hours without a quick break, even if it's only 5 minutes. I have done a few mega sessions... like that one time Daf & I made our way out to an offshore reef about 1k from land in about 4 feet of water... we half walked, half swam against the current all the way... we were out for most of the day - thank god Dario turned up with his lovely lady and gave us water!! I wouldn't do that again in a hurry.

Agreed. Is Dario around now? Glad to hear he hasn't taken the heat on the N. Wales thread to heart. I enjoyed his posts.

Unfortunately not - @dario_deli got deported back to Italy this past winter. He was cited in no less than 7 academic papers as being the single largest threat to North Wales bass number. Thousands, myself included, petitioned the Welsh government for his removal from our waters. Thankfully, the government listened. It was a great day for Welsh fishermen. Some say they are still singing about it in the valleys.

Was Dario the reason for the EU's 2016 bass fishing ban?
