Speargun help!

Hi - I'm a total novice to spearfishing, live in Devon. Me and my mate have been a few times and totally caught the bug!

Anyway, speargun arrived today - a Cressi Apache 75 cm - and no instructions on how to attach the cord to the spear and the gun. Well, I've figured it out now but still have one question - what's the best knot to use for tying the cord to the spear and also to the gun? The guy at Cressi reckoned a reef knot, but I'm not so sure and think a bowline might be better...

I don't have any 'competition nylon' yet - it's simply the cord that came with the gun to attach spear and gun.

Any advice would be greatly received!!!!!!!
