I was at Kenosha today in Bglaesr's hood ) Hi Bglaeser!) and did well on perch...In fact I limited fairly easily- being somewhat choosy waiting for the bigger ones - It looks like Whopperhead and his crew did well too!

My biggest perch went just over 14-1/4 inches...Very nice perch by anyone's standard's...But Whopperhead's looks to be a GIANT! Way to go Whopp! Took me out of the lead again! :blackeye

Here's a few pics of the day's harvest! Left one of the carp behind as he ripped his lips off on my stringer! Carp was maybe 20-25 pounds...Definately not as big as I thought he was when I shot'em!!! The one that "got away" was a smaller one. Coulda shot a few gizz but why? So I let 'em pass...

Put a hurtin' on 5 more perch today in Kenosha after working in Pleasant Prairie. As I was leaving I saw that Bglaeser was there too! The perch were'nt even close to being as big as yesterdays...Had to work hard for anything decent - But I was also in a different area...Next time I'm in Kenchocha I'll be back out circlin' the rock island as thats where the bigger ones were yesterday.

Bglaeser - I did leave you a few gifts! Just in case you did'nt spear anything! Hehehehehe...roflAnd if you saw a 50 pound carp swimmin' around with a hole in his face - It was me who shot it! Dang thing ripped off after a tremendous fight! Fun fun fun...Here's a pic of todays limit!

P.S. When I got home my sister and her husband were there - And the fresh perch from yesterday were being cooked! They were delish!

Depending on the Weather- I'm shooting for Thursday of this next week. Lake Michigan- Probably SSYC unless I hear of a better spot. I WILL NOT BE SWIMMING THE WHOLE BREAKWALL AGAIN! I actually thought about shooting a carp in the tail to see if it would of pulled me back

I'll be workin' in Racine Thiursday...Probably a very short day! I could always shoot up to Milwaukee but Kenosha would be closer for me. Easy shore entry in Kenosha - But not as much area to cover as SSYC...You can go really far there! Call me Thursday And as you've seen there ARE perch there too!

Scott, If you go Thus, I'll take the day off. Pick me up . I'll buy lunch.

Will do- we'll see how the weather is- but I plan on going on thursday.

I had a job cancellation today...:t I'm half tempted to run to Milwaukee - Or Kenosha ,But I think I'll be headin' out to Lake Geneva soon instead...MUCH less costly in gas! I'll report back later! Probably goin' in at George William's University - (new WSP Building)

Lookin' for them big bluegill's! :martial

Gave 5 carp and a dogfish the "shaft" today on Geneva! Not to mention 5 nice 'Gills and a 12" perch! Fun day to be out - :rcard except for the idiots in speedboats making me fear for my life every so often. I swear one of these days I'm gonna LOSE a spear in someone's hull! Chest all pumped up and looking around at who's lookin' at them...Freekin' jerks!

Anyways below is a pic of the two biggest carp...34 and 36 inches...Not sure on the weight but I could tell they were not 43 pounds...So they got chucked in the dumpster!

I was missing "gimme" shots all day on bluegills... Missed a giant one TWICE then he was gone....:head

Also saw Khel driving by in his "pink" jeep thingy and yelled "Heyu!" but I don't know if he saw me. My brother went with and fished in the canoe...ZERO fish for him...The fish were EVERYWHERE...Saw the biggest walleye I ever saw in my life today too...The thing had to go over 12 pounds and atleast 32 inches!!! I almost thought it was a carp at first! The thing was gargantuan!

P.S. - Gloves are a MUST when spearfishing...I lost one of mine today and sure enough, I soon slashed the heck outta my finger on the dogfish I speared.

Good to hear you kept the props out of your head. You gotta be pretty brave to jump in Geneva - not sure I'm up to that.

Now why are you showing me a couple big ugly carp when you could be showing me those panfish?

When my brother said "he'd fillet them" I never looked back! roflThey were'nt THAT special...But since I know you like to see the "pannies" next time I'll take a pic just for you! Nothin' over 9.5" except for the perch - And obviously the carp! Where do the small carp live at? Never see a carp under about 20 inches or so....Weird...Hmmmmm....Makes me wonder? Been trying to get a smallish one to put on the smoker - But no dice...Ever.

Coulda whacked alot of 9-10" pumpkin seeds but they just dont seem to have as nice of a fillet as a bluegill or a perch! Did you notice that on the big one you got "up north?" They sure are colorful! Lake Geneva is LOADED with nice pumpkin's - But I hardly ever shoot 'em anymore.

I think from now on the YAK is coming with me as a "water hazzard" so boats can see me better...Pain in the ass...But a pain in the ass is better than DEAD!

Yup. And bluegills pale in comparison to crappie.

Where do the small carp live at?

Fish Lake, northern Dane county. Lots and lots of carp - none over 24 inches. Most around 18-20". They have a very different body shape when they are smaller - head and scales are much smaller with respect to body size. Fish lake has pretty good water quality, but isn't "spearable" during the summer months. Spring and Fall are doable, however.

Looks like we are going on Wed now instead of Thursday- My wife has thursday booked- So, I'm on kid watching duty

"Kyle in WI", "dotey", "unirdna" & I hit SSYC today- the water temp was 3 degrees colder(61)- The vis wasn't as good (15-20') But the Perch were still in there. I ended up getting 4 with the largest being 14 3/8" and a BIG Belly! - I did see one how ever that was "Freakin HUGE" probably close to 17" and round like a football! AND I missed from about 10' away :head- Still had a Great Time- Can't wait till it warms up a little bit more.

PICS: 1st- Big Belly Perch, 2nd- 4 Nice Perch, 3rd- dotey with a nice Perch, 4th - unirnda On the bottom of the lake-Like always, 5th- unirdna patrolling the rocks

I was ALSO in the BIG LAKE today down in Kenosha...Ended up limiting on nice perch again...Biggest was about 14 inches...I too saw a huge one and missed it!!!

Heres a few shots I took with my new camera housing and cheap little digital!

Vis has been the same down here...But the water temp where I was at was close to 70!

Holy Crap,

I NEVER saw 8 perch at once! And 70F! Good grief. Now, for the love of GOD, get a smaller spear - that one on the left has a splitting headache rofl

I got my 5, too (and no, I'm not proud of that shot in the back) - thanks mostly to Scott's selfless guiding. He said, "there are some big ones right below me, go shoot them" "so I dove down on the big ones right below him, and shot one .

However, since everyone else was branding a 90cm or larger, I was Mr. "Shortgun" today. I never thought I say this.....but, I could have used a little more range. . Two things for the next trip. Extra band, extra wrap of line.

I'd add my story to the "saw a big one, but missed" column, but I'm too pathetic to even tell it. :head He'll be there next time. And, next time, I won't worry about my damn spearpoint :girlie

Huge thanks, Scott, for letting me tag along, and introducing me to a whole NEW brand of spearfishing.

Dustin, sharpen it!

Just think....I'll be even more deadly when the R.A.'s arrive! I can't wait! Saw Bglaeser today and "held his"....Oh it was nice! rofl

All headshots with the JBL baby! All headshots! :martialOr else I chop the fish almost in half sometimes!

There were ZILLIONS of perch down by Kenosha today...Bigger ones were out by the sand in about 14-18 feet!

Man, I wish I had know it was legal to shoot these things years ago. :head

There's a wreck up in Port Washington that we used to dive and we had to push the perch out of the way on the way down to it- I took FreediveChicago out there one time so he knows where it is. There were thousands of them (and they were all big) just hanging out at the thermocline. We used to consider them a nuisance, but now they would be lunch!

Thanks for these photos. I see in one that there seems to be a blanket of Chara, or possible Ceratophyllum at the base of one of the rocks. You also have a ton of BG's in one of your photos.

Were there a lot of plants at your location? Having something to hunt, other than perch, would help keep every dive interesting....

More photos???

I don't know much about the plants, but yes...There are SOME different fish AND plants around in Kenosha...Even crappie's & northern pike. Don't see much Milwaukee way 'cept suckers, carp, & gobies besides the usual trout or salmon & perch.

All my other photo's kinda sucked except this one...No fish just COOL!
