Spearing/Clarity reports - S.E. Wisconsin

We got into 'em today. What a blast! Great spot, Dan!

No shortage of 12-13 inchers. The 14"s (as seen in the photo) made you work for them. They were quite spooky and were hanging deep. I stretched my 25-foot floatline many times. The temp was around 70F, but I still managed to get a chill from all the bottom time (thermocline was also at 25 feet). Vis was 15-20 feet in the good spots. Bgill was jumping in right as we were leaving. We thought we saw bglaeser, as well, when we were pulling out of the lot.

That was one of the most enjoyable hunting days I've ever had.

Per Whopperhead's (Scott) suggestion, I made an instructional video re: how I fillet perch. I'll post it soon.

I schwacked my five right where we discussed! I knew they'd be there! My biggest went about 14 1/2 inches. I was in the water for about three hours. Vis was'nt too bad but it's the worst I've seen it in "The Big Lake" in awhile. Guess they got rain there yesterday...

I actually think it's a little bit better "hunting" when the vis is like it was today. Seems like if you "drop in" reeeeealy slooooow the fish hardly take notice, and BANG! Ol' Crusty puts a nickel sized hole in another one's head! :t

Even though I'm shootin' a peice of re-bar at the fish...Most of 'em were head shots!!! :martialI'm gettin good with that crusty 'ol JBL! But I still can't wait to start "stickin' fish with my Rob Allen's come September!!! Yeee freeekin HAW! :t

Yeah, we were employing that same strategy. Seemed to work later in the day, but not early in the morning . The perch also went from being bottom dwellers to suspending at 15 feet.

...and that was my drum. 31 inches.
 
Yes- Teds Drum: 31 inches 12.5 lbs.

my biggest perch was 14.5" - I have to get used to shooting the Hammerhead again -- I was used to my gun shooting low and was over shooting alot of BIG Perch today. Ted let me keep the Drum- I fileted it, but don't know if I should eat it- It had a golf ball size TUMOR inside it's gill :yack. Not sure if it's safe to eat the meat or not. ALSO- where are those bones that people talk about in their head?

I will post pics tomorrow- when I'm not so tired :crutch

hey ted did you get another rap put on that gun yet i know you had said something about it
 
Great photos, Scott. Thanks for posting them!

Dusten, I did put an extra wrap on my gun - also added a third band. Increased the gun's range from 7 to 11 feet, and I was glad to have it.
 
i would say that it would help to have a little more reach
 
That photo of the bowfin is awesome! Would you be willing to email me the original resolution of that one (unirdna at hotmail.com)? Seriously, your camera might have been a bit goofed, but that photo is one of the most creative underwater shots I've ever seen! Great stuff! Nice of you to let the crappie live another day. I see a 12"er, I get trigger happy.

Heading to Lake Michigan - Kenosha - Harbor Park tomorrow (sunday) I will be there around 1pm-ish till about 5pm. This will probably be my last go at Lake Michigan for Perch- as I believe the season ends Sept 1st.? I'm buying a house next weekend and will be fairly busy for the next few weeks.
 
as for me cause i am just a poor repo man that cant afford to put new tires on his truck so i dont like to get it on the highway so scott is my ride LOL and i also watch the kids durring the day now cause the wife is working now so my days are coming down to very few
 
Just got off the phone with my father-in-law and the water is warm down to 93'- bottom of the trench next to the Willy. I guess that it only drops to the mid 60's at 125'. This is all as of yesterday afternoon.

Those east winds will blown in warm water and stack it up quite a bit- which is why the cooler water fish have moved out to deeper water. The warmer water also means more limited vis. Of course limited vis these days means 25' instead of 70'!rofl 20 years ago good vis was 15' so times have changed.

Good luck with the perch today. If the water's that warm they could be anywhere. I'm not sure how far they swim when things are like that, but I have seen them down close to 100' when the warm water moves in.

Looks like Kenosha is the place to be from the picutres I've seen on here- those things are everywhere!

Well, today really Topped it off for my Lake Michigan Perch Season! Clear waters, Warm and ALOT of Fish! I don't think I've seen so many Fish! - Find the Alewifes and you find the Perch! Schools of Hundred or two. We all got our limit in about 45 mins (we= Me, Dotey, Jon & unirdna) then we were on a search for Jumbo Carp- we saw some big ones but nothing that would go over 43 lbs. Saw a lot of Huge Brown Trout too- that was a nice touch. But, I need get to cleaning all my fish :friday- yum!

Actually.........My previous post.........Not True! In fact it couldn't be further from the truth- We all got skunked, the vis sucked (maybe 10') - i barely saw any fish and the boat traffic was INSANE. I didn't even see a single Perch.

Dusten did find a pink cell phone- which happens to be his favorite color.
 
I got Ted a few times today as well.

He spent more time than he would care to admit swimming around with a bike wheel clipped off to his stringer. He did figure out the anchor I had on there right away.

It's actually a Goby(gobi) not sure if it's from china or where- but it's definately a Gobi.
