Spearo books?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Twisted my arm so I've just bought it. Will read it then give my opinion after

Just quickly read the book. I personally do not think it is that great, it is very short and very basic. But I also found it quite misleading (I got the impression rock tips were the only tips worth using). I personally think there are a lot better books out there (the spearfishermans handbook etc) for beginners, that are longer and more informative with regards on hunting techniques, a wider variation and better idea of guns as well the habitats of fish.

This is just my 2p worth, and I hope I have not offended anyone/author with my comments, however this is my opinion of the book

Wow, that was a v. quick read!

One review says it is 100 pages, the other says only 13 pages The cover looks like a slide from PowerPoint presentation.

By the way, what's the Terry Maas book like? I saw it listed for $33 last week, which I think is less than it used to be. Or is it the shipping that makes it expensive here? Oh, yes, that must be it, still pricey here in the UK:

I too have recently read this

I found it pretty well written, quite informal and relaxed, though I feel it didn't really cover anything in any particular depth. The book is essentially in two parts, first is just general freediving including a quick history, technique, equipment and safety. The second part is about foraging and diving for food, again equipment, safety, technique etc and descriptions of fish, shellfish, seaweed etc.
I primarily bought this book as it was sold as describing hunting technique, however, this was very thin e.g. the section on the location and technique for bass was 8 lines long and the bass section was the most comprehensive.

I'd say this is a good book for someone trying spearfishing for the first time with no freediving experience , however, I don't think there's anything in it for for someone with more than one season of spearing experience.

Thanks for an honest review saved me getting it!may look at it in a shop and see tho.

I just saw the above post, coincidentally I just discovered the same book on Amazon, "Underwater foraging - Freediving for food: An instructional guide to freediving, sustainable marine foraging and spearfishing"

I've only seen the Amazon "Look Inside" preview but it looks quite promising/interesting to me. Lots of nice modern colour images & background, quite a lot of detail on breathing, which might be useful. I think I might get this one. Perhaps I could leave it on the coffee table for my son to "discover"
