SpecialFins Dolphin Carbon Monofin

Brianna,

That looks like one of those Leader Fins. Mine are made by Special Fins. The one you hve pictured has a molded-in Wing on the leading edge of the blade. I have that on my Blue one, but not on my Dolphin Carbon.

I use to use the dolphin carbon and had real problems with blisters or raw spots as you say, even while using socks. One solution I found handy was to use blister pads in the raw areas: a bit of a pain every time you put on the fin.

But don't get me wrong - the fin is great, especially for CW. The footpockets are really tough too (unlike the regular dolphin mono, you can hardly hear the footpockets stretching underwater which means they are transmitting power to the fin efficiently). I took it freediving in France and all the French divers were marvelling at the footpockets, wondering how they could get Guidone to incorporate the same ones into his fins.

I now use the waterway model 1 medium density which is less stiff, but is slightly wider and longer and better suited to me, because of my height (6'2''). Just a point of view, not gospel!

Hope you enjoy it,

Theo.

Thanks Theo,

I was thinking aobut making some extra pads for my feet out of some wetsuit scrap I have. I was more worried that I went too stiff on the blade. Both that blade and my blue one are the exact same size and are also listed as the same stiffness, but they are world's apart. I'm only 5'10" so the blade size is fine for me.

I was playing aorund with my WaterWay #2 yesterday and it seems super soft compared to this one. The footpockets on that one aren't a fair comaprison because I bought it too big- I can easily get a 6mm sock in there or even a 5mm hardsole boot!:head

I haven't had a chance to try it for constant yet, just dynamic, so I'm hoping it does well.

Jon

Jon, WW footpocket size can be changed by undoing the straps and rgluing them, I heard of people buying them with open straps and gluing them themselves. As for the method, worth asking around.

Michael,

Do you know what kind of glue they are using? The footpocket itself is too large and I am not sure how to change that.

I did wear it ice diving last month and was able to put 5mm socks on underneath it and it worked, but not as well as it would if it were the correct size.

Well,

I just sent my Carbon Dolphin back to Specialfins. After two times in the pool my feet are now so bloody I can barely wear any monofin- lety alone regular fins. I tried every combination for wetsuit socks I could think of and it didn't help. I wanted to make sure I sent it back before I scratched it up and wasn't able to. I am pretty pleased that they will allow me to do this.

On the bright side, SF said that they will let me exchange if for a Freedivers Carbon Monofin- provided I pay the difference in the price of the fins of course. They also said they can build my new mono with SPORASUB footpockets, that I sent them, instead of the OMER's- like I have on my old monofin. I am VERY excited about this and know of others who, now, might jump into a monofin since they can get it with Sporasub pockets instead of the OMER's.

I am sure it will take soem time to get here, but the lakes still have ice on them so I can certainly wait a bit.

Jon

What would be the main difference between the sporasub footpockets and the OMERS? I have not tried Omer footpockets and I am hesitating to get a monofin from specialfins.

for the rubber i use loctite 406
for rubber to blade conection loctite 1

it works well
