Sporasub Shoe Fins (i.e. Sporasub Revolution)

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
For that budget I have found the following fins that I can get locally. Would any of these be a better choice over the Sporasub?

Beuchat Mundial Competition Fin $199
Beuchat Mundial Competition Fin $149
Mares Pure Instinct - Instinct Pro Spearfishing $139
Orca Replaceable Blade Fin - Land & Sea $149
Mares Razor Pro Fins $179

My spearing fins are Beuchat Mundial Competition fins with tough plastic blades. They are a relatively cheap & cheerful freediving fin over here (£40-£65-ish), with polymer (i.e. plastic/nylon?) blades. Sporasub's products seem to be targetted more at the highly expensive end of the price range (at least judging by some of their RRP/SRPs) - with the sister company Omersub's product line being more in the middle.

That said, I've used mine for more that 5 years and they have taken a lot of abuse (I weigh up to 250lb). I find the foot-pockets very comfortable with socks (year round) and without socks (sometimes in the summer or in the pool). I have heard reports that the foot-pockets suit narrow feet but my feet are not at all narrow - quite wide in fact. I believe they are popular enough that you can get alternative blades from Beuchat [see carbon & camo fibre blades above] & 3rd party replacement blades that fit them (they are different to Omer fittings I believe) - but my original blades are still good, even after many coats of various types of paint (acrylic, oil, enamel, car, house,...).

If spearing, you might want to get a blade colour that is relatively camo in your waters (e.g. black or green). You can paint them but might as well start with a good base-colour :).

Seacsub spearfishing fins seem to be potentially "best buy"/"best value" products at the moment over here in Blighty, they offer several models (which are evolving all the time), e.g.

I believe this is Anthony at Venture Sports in Paignton, S. Devon, UK (sells the neat little Samurai spearo dagger too): Long FINS Flippers SEAC XPRO - Snorkelling Spearfishing | eBay

Mike's in Bristol (I got my dive booties from him): SEAC SUB X-PRO FINS Freediving spearfishing 6.5-13 | eBay

Looks like there is quite a choice just from ebay these days: Spear fins | eBay

This link includes many of the popular choices, for spearfishing anyway: Scuba diving equipment - Spearfishing fin

Never used them but I recall the Cressi Gara (2000/3000?) LGs (softer ones) being popular with the Dorset spearos a few years back. Very long and slender. I don't think the blades are removable/replaceable though (but I could be wrong)*.

[*The only fins I have regularly heard of breaking are the cool Omer Ice fins :( but blades can and do break - regular plastic blades seem to be pretty robust though].

For durability, the whole cressi line is hard to beat. For performance, I prefer spora pockets and specialfin blades, but my cressi 2000s are near 20 years old in a hot and humid climate, get used several times a week in the pool and show no signs of age. They live in my truck. In the last 10 years I've been through two sets of sporas.

The Cressi lds are good all round fins. Lots of divers swear by them. Foot pocket comfort is VERY individual. Some divers hate'em. Most seem to think they are comfy.

I also have a set of Beuchats mundials, came with competition blades. I (my son mostly) uses them with Waterways blades. They are about 6 years old, don't get used much and are showing some splitting where the different types of rubber come together. Otherwise they look much like the Cressi's, in both fit and finish. In fairness, the splitting may be because of the shape of the blades.

I went down to the local dive shop to see what they had and ended up walking away with a pair of omer milleniems on clearance for $200.

I'm heading out for a session today so it will be good to see how they go.

Cheers for your input guys
