Statics training for person who (thinks they) hate statics.....

Looking for some training advice for static breath hold.Fairly new to freediving I have been part of a club for about 9 months and have enjoyed a winters pool training and now deep dives in a local lake. I am not mentally strong and this affects my ability to endure static holds.
I have achieved 86m Dynamic, 78m DNF and recently reached 30m CWT and 20m CNF.
In something of a contrast I struggle with Static holds with my pb sitting at about 3.30. I generally get contractions starting from 1.35-1.40 and growing in strength and speed. This can be partially ridden out and also reduced by focusing on keeping a glottis lock rather than a tongue lock. However the discomfort and physical activity mean my heart rate never really drops.
I do CO2 tables to 10s with a 1.30 hold regularly but most of my other dry training consists of walks and depth simulations.
Looking for any ideas for effective training for static holds especially wet holds. I have tried some frc holds but afore mentioned lack of mental strength does make me....... dislike these
 
I realise I have identified my own point of weakness and encouragement to Harden the F*&^ up will be taken in stride :)
 
From my own personal experience the sporty approach
Harden the F*&^ up
backfires badly for mental challenges. An approach of 'giving in' and 'gently accepting' works far better than trying to be 'harder' or 'beat' the challenge.

I also struggle with breathhold. PB is 5 minutes. I prepared in that attempt in an unusual way. I started with a 1 hour table including 1 minute breatholds and with one breath in between. This table was not hard and gave me a hugh chill. Half a hour pause. 2 min breathhold. 3 min breathhold. Max attempt. The last minute was pure struggling and fighting back the contraction :)
 
You don't need to harden the F up.

Become more attuned with what your body tells you and say thank you but I'd like to continue my relaxed breathe hold. :)

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to need to find a way to decrease the severity of contractions so that I can retain a more relaxed state. Currently I pop my back and even pull muscles so I'm going to have to work on CO2 intensively first I guess
 
For me the "Harden the F*** up" works in static, much better than trying to be super relaxed all the way through.

For me about 2-3 minutes it's okay to be just relaxed and enjoy yourself but you have to admit to yourself that going through 2-3 minutes of intense contractions is going to hurt, no matter what. So, I take the "suffer" part of static as such, it's going to be hard and it's a fight, just keep conscious of your feelings so you don't push too far.

Fighting doesn't mean being all super-tense, you still have to be physically relaxed and loose, let the contractions wash over you.
 
I agree with you wrt the suffering in statics. What I meant to say was, that for me it works better to approach this by trying to distance myself from the experience (much like you describe it as letting contractions wash over you), rather than pitting myself up against the suffering. I found that the head to head approach ('I am stronger than the pain') wore me out and spoilt the fun. Maybe I'm just a wimp. :)
 
For me the solution to the contractions 'issue' was to go fully INTO them. To let them take over and take me for a ride. I focus with all my attention on the calm, relaxation between the contractions. The more fully I can focus on that gap the longer they become. And when the contraction comes I don't try and do anything. Just like I'm on a boat in rough seas. I also periodically scan other areas of my body for tension, especially the shoulders. I have reached the point where I can almost 'enjoy' them because I don't perceive any struggle or danger any more.
