Hi all,

I just start freediving just last 2 months, doing some dynamic around the pool

I usually can do 50m only, few days ago as I tried to push more than 50m I had this strange sensation running through my whole body, I felt my arms & legs are getting very light and motionless or tired how sure how can I say that
and also felt this huge sensation from around my body rushing to my core chest.

I panic, not sure should I push on or not so I stop and surface up.
the question is, should I carry on if I happen to have the same feeling again?

and yes, there's a spotter fully aware of what I'm doing.

Hello JP,

Congratulations, you are starting to feel some of the cool things that freediving does to you, thanks to the mammalian dive reflex.

No need to be afraid (I personally feel sorry for those who don't experience these sensations!!) but you MUST have a good dive buddy who knows what to do if you should have a problem.

Best of luck, and take a freediving course soon to speed up your progress and safety.

Good Job , I am also new to diving and have experienced a similar sensation, I think its blood rushing to your core, its caused by peripheral vaso constriction and dialation of the vena cava, basically the veins in your legs and arms got smaller and your largest vein the vena cava got a whole lot bigger , I'll add a big I THINK on the end because I'm not 100% sure. Any how its feels good so do it again, in moderation with a safety swimmer.

Thank you Azapa & Mike for your response.

we only took the beginner class for freediving, will definitely go for advance when we have the chance.

yeah, I've read of mammalian dive reflex never expect I would get that. I always though you'll have that on negative exercise.

But if I do get that, is it alright to push on?
