Is there anything those of you in the know can suggest that helps strengthen the achilles for monofinning? i got tendonitis once and it was terrible(i also don't jog).. thanks!

..could it be my footpockets?

I am just bumping this because I'm sure someone has experienced this? And I also wanted to add, maybe it's my footpockets? I monofin with mat-mas foot pockets, I have never used open heels- and I haven't any experience with Omer footpockets- are they much different from mat-mas?
Anyways, very important, as I want to avoid long term tendon damage but I love to monofin. Thanks..

I think Tylerz posted something about training to prevent tendonitis, not sure though, try the search option.
The other guy who is supposed to have lots of information about it is Eric F, maybe a PM would help you...

Good luck. It sounds like a terrible condition to have...

Thanks for the links, I looked over those threads and they had lots of good info! :)

I realize I described my footpockets incorrectly: they are mat-mas, but open heeled. I think this was before I got the neoprene booties (from MEC, full sock) because I think the cold had much to do with it. What probably happened was that I jumped in the pool, did very little warm up, just went for a few laps of fly and because I didnt do any warm-ups, my tendon took a beating. Couldn't walk well for a couple days. Worse, I was worried it would happen whenever I went monofinning!! Anyways, the booties majorly help, as do warm up laps before putting on the mono. The cold water will also cramp up my toes if I'm not careful. It's the weirdest looking thing- two or three of my toes suddenly just droop down like i broke them or something and they are totally useless! Gotta hobble to the hot tub! LOL
