As someone that lives in Seattle washington, I'm trying to buy a suit that will let me freedive in the 40 degree winter water semi comfortably, I looked into a dry suit but realized freediving in it would be almost impossible. I know very little about suits in general and am looking for a something around 500 dollars and would appreciate any help

You have lots of options really , elios makes a really good suit for winters . I live in vancouver canada and dive the west coast of vancouver island winter once was -7 and water was 2 degrees above freezing . I have a elios and oceaner rec45 both 6.5 and im hot good gloves and socks are crucial. I have also used an oceanos wetsuit 5mm a little colder but again key is good socks and gloves friends dive with omer / picasso suits and they have few complaints but i would go for a suit with yamamoto neprene for sure at least grade 39 . Higher grade softer neoprene becomes so get knee pads and elbo pads for the rocks .

I'm trying to decide between a 7 mm elios smoothskin and a 7 mm bare reactive wetsuit, the wetsuit looks way nicer and seems significantly warmer because it uses infrared light, I'm pretty sensitive to the cold as well, what would you suggest, and is a 7 mm wetsuit too constrictive for freediving?

IT would be bulky but i dive a 6.5 elios and it is insanley warm a little bulky but you get used to it . Its custom cut to your body so it fits petfectly this is huge in keeping warm if you can order custom cut tailored to you . I also get cold super easy so i can only speak for the elios or a rec 45 by oceanet I dont have much experience with bare but i would look at reviews and personally would go elios
