It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
we are gonna dive the palace pier earlyish, get in about 8.30, then dive the west pier about 1, can you make either of these. we can dive the west pier later if you like.

Hi pisces ill be heading over to Brighton not Newhaven tommorrow about 2 so might see u down there.

Hi Guys. Sorry huntfish , I never checked the forum until now. Yeah went down to Newhaven this morning and spent about 3 hours in the water. Saw lots of Wrasse(I'm not shooting them anymore- don't really like it on the plate) and Pollack. majority of them were undersize though. Only saw one that was worth a shot and of course I missed.:headSome crazy guy on a boat decided to scream at us after we got out, as he must have thought we damaged his lobster pots, even though we never touched them. He was really pissed.:martialwent down to Seaford and saw absolutely nothing for the entire hour and a half dive. Saw Jwells there though and he was exactly as I remembered him from last year - always in high spirit , so that cheered me up at least. Also met some nice spearos from London. So,all the way back to london empty handed, was good to get back in the water though after a long winter. Just hope the fish will come.

Hi pisces it was me u saw down Seaford. Im just about to head over to Newhaven ,ill be keeping an eye out for crazy lobster man , i did see his buoys set out along the wall the other day sounds like he has an issue with spearos.
Hi jwells Did u get any more after i packed up i thought the water became alot clearer as the tide turned what did u think?

Iv just got back from diving at Seaford decided it looked quite clear so gave it ago. Mullet are back in town i must have had about 50 swim past me, all too small but was a good site to see. Does anyone know if u can eat spider crabs because i picked up 3 huge ones but wasnt sure if they were any good?.

Spider crabs are very good eating! Sweeter than 'normal' crabs but trickier to get all the meat out!

hey huntfish i went back to the palace pier a bit later after you left caught a couple more flatfish and that was it, but yeah it definanlty got clearer as the day went on.
just dived a few patches of rock along brighton beach this evening and saw lots of bass caught one bass of probably just over 2 pounds, saw lots of others but they kept their distance.
i am gonna try newhaven next time, we was wondering what those buoys are along the newhaven, i too will keep an eye out crazy lobster pot man haha.

Oh im gonna have to go back and get me some crabs, its about all i could get that day their were fishermen everywhere.
Ill try Newhaven next too iv got to sort out my weights before i dive next u use up all energy trying to dive under. Iv also got to figure out an easier way to equilise i couldent clear either ears and that gets annoying especially when others can do it without trying (your lucky jwells) im sure there must be a easier way than holding your nose and blowing any ideas?

Many Thanks to the Southsea Club for fitting our lads into their boats at the weekend for the Interclub competition. Top man on the day was Sean Deighton of Sussex with 14 mixed fish in his catch, Graham Worley of Southsea was second with 9 fish included in his mixed catch was a bass of 8 lbs. Conditions at Bognor were near to perfect with no tide, hot sunshine and 15ft underwater visibility.

i dont know huntfish i usually just hold my nose and blow a bit, works for me, dont know how other people do it.
dived this morning with steve, i think kevin you know him, and i caught 1 bass, 1 plaice and 2 flounders, steve on the other hand caught a big bass which he guessed at 7 pounds, loads of flatfish and a cuttlefish.
there was lots of bass and bream under the palace pier this morning, gonna try brighton beach a bit later if this wind does not mess things up!

Thanks for the info Eric but can you give any more details as I am sure there are lots of db members who would be interested?

Fox Fish
More information, I had two bass one of 3 kilos and another of 1.5 k the area I was fishing was in twenty foot of water and the fish were very spooky due to dolphins and smooth hounds hunting the bream shoals at this time of year. They were in good caves under kelp-covered rocks but it was no good trying to go in on them in a conventional way. On seeing the slights movement i.e. flash of silver I had to drift back off the rock in the northeast breeze and come back to the hole very slowly and as close to the bottom as pos then let the fish show themselves to me. I was trying out a new gun a 82 cm Buchat carbon, seamed to be a bit long at first but due to its lightness it can be manoeuvred with no problems. Graham 8 lb bass came at him in open water and most of the Pollack caught were just under a kilo largest bream of the day was 1.5 kilo.

Hi guys (Eric Kev etc)..... sounds like Bognor is fishing well. Portland only average at the moment, but a few nice bass up to 11lbs have come out.... I was in today and the Plankton bloom is now here, at 40ft I could hardly see the end of my gun! Got few nice Pollock though

laters
Clive.

Thanks Eric, fascinating stuff about the bass in holes! I have never encountered a bass in a hole, I have spent many hours looking for lobster, conger & crabs but never have I seen a bass!
My two brothers have spent even more time looking in caves, holes & under the kelp but they have never seen a bass! It would be great if ever you visit us in Guernsey to see if you could find one?

Any one know what the water is like at the moment ,im going over to Newhaven or seaford tommorrow i just hope the mayrot isnt to bad.
How u doing jwells , where abouts u see cuttlefish?

hey huntfish, i dived yesterday under the palace pier and got a big cuttlefish, a squid and 6 bass, there are lits of bass under there at the moment.
i dived today and got one bass and a lobster, i think the may bloom is here a bit, but its still easily divable.
might see you over at newhaven at some point tommorow huntfish i am gonna dive palalce pier early tommorow then might go over to newhaven later on.

"Six" bass! good catch by any standard, how big were the bass?

Just got back from Newhaven, vis about 6-7 meters when u were away from the wall but in close about 3-4 meters, most of the time i was swimming thru plancton which i guess is the may bloom.I saw a garfish which swam up to me i took aim and with one sweep of its tail was gone in a flash. I also saw a Bass of about 5lb but was to the right of me and couldent swing the gun in time for a decent shot.
I managed one pollock and although fround upon i took a wrasse of about 4lb but to be fair i havent tryed one yet so if nice might be good for an easy meal.
Ill be diving Brighton palace at low tommorrow just hoping for smooth water.
Im still hoping to get a spider crab i saw some massive ones today just not sure how to hold them and keep fishing.

hey huntfish sorry i did not text you back i have run out of credit on my phone and have not got round to getting any more.
sounds like you had a good day huntfish,
i dived the palalce pier today and spent most of the day looking for lobsters, and got another lobster from a hole and i also speared a squid of about 3-4 pounds, so not a bad day.
thats the second lobster i have caught in the last two days. yay.
