Sussex report 2008

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Careful where you swim we have spent many years building a good relationship with the local fishermen, they are restricted to fishing at certain times, we can fish it in the early morning. Give them space, we need as many friends as we get at the moment.

I made a very obvious point of keeping very clear of their lines, I was on the concrete rocks so no chance of tangling with them.

One of them actually came along the wall to cast his line across the rocks and me. Now thats a stupid thing to do.

The day before I had a pleasant conversation with some of them, so the agro is obviously limited to a few special retards from the hills!

Many years ago one of them, a very savage beast, threw his drop net at me but forgot to hang on to the rope, he was very apologetic as I dived to recover it for him. He was trying to tell me that the outside of the
Mariner was his club waters, what he did not relize was that I was diving there before the Mariner was built.

Im also a keen fisherman and would never dive where the lines are cast, at the time the stone was thrown i was well away from any rods and swimming away from them. I think alot of them believe we scare all the fish away just by our presents in the water, i supose its understandable to those that dont dive to think that.

Hey guys,

Hows the sea down there at the moment? Has anyone been diving recently?
I've just checked the wheather forecast, but it would be great to have an update on sea conditions...

Cheers

hey, its bad down here at the moment, its been well choppy these last few days so its stirred the sea up. winds are not forcast to drop anytime soon either by the looks of the weather forcast.

Well done Eric....water filthy here still....gale force winds forecast for next week as well....aaahhhh!!!!!!! I was hoping to get in the water several times before Sandy Bay Comp, and be least be a little water fit, but thats not looking likley! Anyhow, GW has this years comps all sewn up, so everyone else can now relax! Well done Greham :friday

Attempted a dive on Sunday, it was not good. Sea was all over the place and it was like diving in a washing machine. visability was about three feet. we were a couple of miles out on a wreck.

Tried Bognor today , vis about 1-2m (just) , did 35 + dives but saw no Bass or flatties . Shot 1 Mullet , saw one other and a few small Pollack , not a brilliant day but good to get back in ( been so long I forgot how to work my D3 ) .

Thanks again to the nine-squad members who turned up at 6am for the training session at Bognor today. Trosky came out on top with a fine catch of bass one of which weighed in at 8.5 lbs. Also Keith for his catch of big mullet, Mick Veal is to be awarded a full quota of Brownie points for spending 1 hour in the water despite suffering from bronchial pneumonia, kidney infection and walking with a limp. The viz varied between 8 & 15ft on the outer reef with large mullet and kilo Pollack in abundance. Best story of the day, the manager (myself) dropped over a ledge in 10 mts turning slowly to the left two bass one about 12 lbs and the other ten slid out under my gun to the right easing the gun round the bigger fish turned back in with the ten pounder heading in to the haze straight on. With half a second to make my mind up I went for the smaller fish hoping to take the bigger fish out of the ledge on the next dive, I must be getting old the spear missed it completely and got stuck. As I moved forward to clear it the larger bass swam round me to have a look before thundering of into the gloom. Anybody want to but my kit!

Dived yesterday with jwells took 1 bass aprox 3lb, 3 mullet all over 3lb . current was strong tho had to hook on to rocks to string fish or would probably still be out there. jwells as usual taking some nice fish i think about 6 mullet and one bass. vis was good for first hour then started silting up as tide started coming in.
Did u dive this morning josh?

no i didn't dive this morning but it looked good, i would have never made it to work if i had gone diving.
yesterday was really good though but the weather is supposed to be rubbish for the next week which is annoying.

The Sussex club had a club dive on sunday. Started on the Jenny grounds viz was okay but nothing special, myself and Dave P then went a dived the west pier were the viz was 20ft plus, problem was there where very few fish. still it was good to get out.

Dived on Saturday at Bognor, viz was rubbish yet again. A horrible 5-6 ft at best.
Two bass between the two of us.

Looks like it could be ok this week, but obviously I will be hard at work.

Just a thought when will the Sussex reports qualify to be a sub forum?

Hi guys, i have'nt logged on here for a couple of months now. Very busy at work, and had 3 weeks in Sardinia. Had an awesome time. Lots of sun, fun and beer. Not that that much (shootable-as in big enough)fish though, but really enjoyed the freediving in crystal clear 25 degr. water.
Anyway, was thinking of driving down to brighton/newhaven/seaford from London tomorrow, and was wondering if any of you guys could give me a report to asses if it is worth the drive down??? Vis, fish, wind etc.
Much appreciated.
grazie.
chiao chiao.
