Yea easily 10lb maybe more ;) . Yea loads of fish shame i missed every shot and thru my dinner up right at the end but good otherwise ,ill definitly have to do a bit of exercise i was knackered after only 1.5 hours

yeah we should do the harbour next time stewart.
never guess what i went surfing today at shoreham and as it was a really big tide and there was loads of sand showing we decided to walk back along the sand to see what was there and we came across a hugh edible crab which was just half buried in the sand, he must of got stranded there by accident as the tide went out, took him home gonna eat him tommorow. still cant belive we found him haha

Iv just been checking over my gear and found my spear is bent at the barbs. That would explain all those missed fish last dive, i knew their must have been a reason for it ha ha ,this is a perfectly good reason to replace my gun ill tell the misses :)

ah i usually straighten mine with a hammer and just gently tap it until its straight, do you know if they got any more of the beachat marlins in yet?

You actually want to have a little 'lift' at the tip of barb so when spear penetrates fishh fully it doesn't just slide back out; i.e. the 'lifted' end of barb catches and makes the barb open fully stopping the spear sliding back out. Use pliers to do this.

thanks spaniard i know i have the little lift on my barbs i meant the actual spear needing to be straight, never good spearfishing with a bent spear.

Anyone know what the vis is like ? Don't want to drive all the way down and find it's rubbish , anybody been in ? Caught anything ? I mean for shore diving , not zooming miles offshore to mid-channel ! All info'/help is really appreciated .

hey devondave i swam around the palace pier early this morning and the vis is a murky 1 meter at best out at the end of the pier, but thats better than yesteray so maybe and hopefully it will be better tommorow. i am gonna walk down there again in the morning early to see what its like again so i will post up the condition as soon as i get back.

Tried Newhaven today , vis was poor & got worse as high tide approached , saw a few Mullet & Pollack , plus small shoal of Bass , took 1 Bass before vis got too bad . All in all it was a bit disappointing , shall try a bit further west next time .

i dived off brighton beach yesterday around the west arm of brighton marina and then swam to the palace pier, got 3 bass all about 3.5 - 4pounds and i missed a reallly big one aswell. vis was really good in brighton yesterday, but i allways find the vis is a bit rubbish when you go down deep at newhaven.

Hi jwells , well done on the Bass , good to hear the vis is ok . Think you're right about Newhaven, shall save it for hole fishing in future . There were Bass hiding in the holes but too dark to shoot , (forgot torch ). Will fish further West untill we get a longer period of settled weather :hmm ( whatever that is ). Please keep up your reports on conditions , they are invaluable to us non-coastal types :) . (Oh yeah , and leave some fish for me ! )

dived again along brighton beach today, got 2 bass and 3 mullet, vis was not as good as yesterday but i put that down to the easterly breeze we had all day. swam along to the west arm of the marina again saw two other spearfisherman who where spearfishing from a small boat, not sure what they had caught though.

Wasn't me. I was off Ovingdean/Rottingdean. Biggest shoal of baby Pollack I've ever seen, quite an amazing site! No Bass though.

I dived Newhaven today vis was really good out at the rocks but closer in was about 2 meters, it was midday and i saw hardly any fish one small bass a large wrasse and a slimy eel other than that tiny pollock.

Just to let you no that one of our club members had a Bass of 17lbs today off the shore east of Brighton.

Thanks for letting us know Eric, please give him my congratulations.
I dont suppose you have any pics available?

Another nice day yesterday.

Nice Bass off the Marina.

Fishermen on the wall were speaking some loud French though. I invited them in for some fisty cuffs but they declined.:martial

Yea fisherman dont tend to like us in "their water" i had stones thrown at me the other day at seaford!
