Suunto D4/Cressi EDY/Mares Nemo: Pros&Cons

Hi all, I decided to buy a dive watch. I am after watch with freediving mode because I like single breath diving the most (I am not an expert) but sometimes I also go underwater with tank. The last but not the least part is also every day use as a normal watch (so it should look "coool" ). So after some research I came up with the following choices:
Suunto D4
Cressi EDY
Mares Nemo

I have read many pros here about EDY, still I did not made my decision yet. I believe it would help me if you experienced guys, who have these watches or had more of them to compare, could simply and briefly write pros&cons that made up your decision for one of them and not the others (or would change your choice today).

Suunto D4 are very nice, I like it, still it's above the budget. D4 is the only one I had opportunity to try.
EDY seems to be nice, however I have never seen it in any shop and I have no idea how it feels on hand and in the water and AFAIK it doesn't have stopwatch nor timer (and I am used to use it from time to time during training). I don't know much about Mares Nemo (I read the description and some info in the forum) however I have never had an option to try it by myself either.

One of the important features is user-replaceable battery, so look for that too. D4 officially does not have the possibility. Personally, I am eagerly waiting for the AERIS f.10 computer that should be available soon. It has much more features than any other freediving computer currently available. Look up the posts about it in the archive.

I'm using D4 and all the functions you are looking for are in it. I'm using it as a normlan every day watch, my friend uses it for scuba. I'm only a freediver so i can say it is great for this tuff especially the frequency when it is measuring the depth..alarms and depth identificators. All what you wish for

My budy is using the NEMO Titanium..and i have to say it looks amazing! Much better than the D4..about the feautures I think everything is the same exept it can show the temperature without activating diving profile ( in D4 you have to do it). Furthermore the Nemo is more expensive than the D4, in Poland it is difference of about 60-70Euro.

Sorry for my today's english but i'm way to sick to even sit by the computer...Grr and i wanted to go ice diving.. Fu*** flu!

2trux: Yaeh, I have read here that EDY is easy stuff in that.

2whucash: Ise diving... brrr.. Cold. Now I am in Malaysia, so it is pretty hot here and lot of water around. With the Titanium you are right, it is expensive but in Czech Republic the standard version costs 60-70 EUR less then D4. At the same price range also EDY is.

I use the D4 for Freediving thou it has settings for air and nitrox also. Battery replacement is an issue with the D4 if you dont have any dealer or service center in your area but D4 is the best sampling rate among the 3 you have mentioned, if you are short on breath like me to take readings, D4 is a way to go or otherwise like Trux said, the Aeris f 10 is really an awesome watch but a little bit more pricey than the D4.

I checked the services in my place and at least for that I have good news. Suunto has authorized service just right in my city. That's definitely a plus for D4.

Any comparisons to say what is better about D4 vs. EDY or Nemo and vice versa? I heard lot of good about both EDY and NEMO, still to me D4 seems to be the best so I might pay that price difference for the best suitable stuff.

I was also caught between the Edy 2 and D4 when searching out for the watch, both will have the same functionalities but D4 is better in the sampling rate side. I chose D4 for that and also D4 has a service center and Cressi has none here.

No, it is not. Currently you can only compare catalogue prices, because street prices for F.10 are not available yet. The catalogue price for D4 is $650 (or perhaps even more), while for F.10 it is just $419. So there is a good hope that the street price of F.10 remains below that of D4 too.

D4 is better in the sampling rate side.

As far as I know, D4 has 1s sample rate just as all the other computers.

I believe that what was said about sampling rate is that D4 measures depth three times per second. Like the others it can save it every second. It makes it more accurate I think. Am I right (maybe I'm talking bulls...)?

Since the internal refresh rate is not known at the other computers, it may be easily as high or even higher. However the main purpose of the higher rate is not making the measurement more precise, but having the display faster responding to the changes. It is also easily possible reading the sensors permanently with a very high refresh rate, but it could lead to flattering of the display, hence the rate 1/3s, which is a good compromise. Depends actually where you will buy it. I bought my D4 for $650 here in UAE where the regular price is $750. I got a discount for being a loyal customer:friday. But if you will buy it in Dive Inn Scubastore, their current price is 309.66 Euro which converts to around $412. I hesistated to buy it on-line due to warranty issues.

I think according to the last thread of the F10 , it is due for release on May. If you can wait a little bit longer,then the F10 is a good option.

Actually not. That's then the street price, not the catalogue price. Catalogue price is either the price recommended by the manufacturer, or set by the main distributor(s). Street prices are usually lower than the catalogue price, and can differ significantly at individual resellers, or in individual countries. So since we do not have any f.10 street prices yet, only the catalogue price announced by the manufacturer, you cannot compare it to the cheapest street price of D4.

EDY lacks any stopwatch/timer functions (why?!?) and depth alarms can't be changed when the watch is wet. It's physically a fair bit smaller than the D4 though and costs less. D4 has the best computer-based dive analysis, while the NEMO is a bit of an unknown quantity for me. Phil C just got one though, so maybe he can weigh in? It looks cool, for what it's worth...

Do you know any software that can be used with a mac for recording, organizing and retrieving dive information with the Suunto Dive manager in D4?

Also the DiveTools should work on any platfrom - if I remember well, they are written in Java, hence should work too. Or the DiveLog software is for Mac too. Look it up here: software Suunto @ APNEA.cz or in Google, where you will probably find even more choices.
