Hi,
would the shallow water blackout occur only after a certain diving time (say 1 minute) or it depends only on how deep I dive? I wanna dive for less than a minute and not deeper than 35 feet. I won't hyperventilate before a dive. Would I still have a chance to blackout?

There are far too many factors involved, so there is no guarantee you will not black out even if you keep the dive time relatively short.

I suggest you find some experienced divers who can help you understand your inherent capabilities. We all have different capabilities and one learns these by getting in the water and experimenting. If you do this, but always have a dive partner who watches your entire dive and every dive, and so long as you don't impair your warning systems by hyperventilation, you will be relatively safe.

I was suprized to hear from my uncle in Australia, and he told me doing breath holds he had an on land black out a few minutes after ventilating, and realized later he had a sinus problem. He is an experienced spear fisherman. Who would have known. Just always have a buddie...even in the pool. It sounds kind of lame, but I have heard of experts having issues. Be safe
