tags in constant no fins

Has anyone been to a no fins constant competition - what did they do about tags? seems a bit awkward so swim up froggie style with a tag in your hand but we will need them to verify depth. Any ideas?

Good remark... we can ask the same question for the lanyard... it is not so easy moving your arm with a lanyard at the wrist, is it ?

The people doing record attempts only need to touch a plate at the appropriate depth, which is witnessed by a SCUBAdiver/and or videotape.

The rules state the following:

3.14 The athlete must bring a tag up to the surface and deliver it to a member of the jury. This tag is situated on the final base plate at the announced depth of the athlete. In an event without fins, the tag must have a wrist/arm-ring which allows the athlete to use his hands, or a complete Velcro system so the freediver can attach the tag on him.

About Lanyard, you can use a belt-version nothing in the way then (see competition rules, point 2.2).

I believe a number of records have been set in free immersion and constant no fins with the competitor only having to touch the plate at depth. Perhaps this was during another incarnation of the rules.

Pim, just a couple of comments regarding your alternative idea to attaching the lanyard to the weight belt... I would caution someone that you have less mavouverability with the line at your waist vs. your wrist and it is also a very bad location to have your lanyard if you need to be pulled to the surface by the counterbalance. With the lanyard at your wrist you get pulled up arm first in a more hydrodynamic position and your head facing down. Whereas with the lanyard at your waist you'd be pulled up waist first with a big arch in your back and your head/mouth back and open.

Jason,

I'm aware of your points. People simply ask a question and some of the answers are in the rules. About the lanyard to the belt....you will have a strap attatched to your wrist to attach the lifting bag in case of trouble, with a counterweight system you are right about (the possibility) of difficulties in case of trouble.

and yes we are doing fine up here (despite the weather.....), long time NO SEE, hope you and Julie are doing fine also?

ps, I personally don't have any troubles in manouverability with the lanyard attached to the waist......

yeah, but that's because you're a slim trim freediving machine Pim. I'm a big buoyant bobbing machine myself.

most people doing no fins use a waist lanyard, not sure how you could really do it otherwise unless your lanyard was ridiculously long - but you do need an extra weight belt if you attach it to your belt (the rules the rules)

will try putting an extra large elastic band on the tags - velcro sounds too complex

s
