Technisub Marina

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
As I wrote, I ordered both the Marina and the Mikromask and wanted to compare them side by side to see what the differences are exactly. Unfortunately, I received only the Mikromask - Marina was no more on stock although it was marked as available in the online store. I can post detailed photos of my Mikromask though, so that those who own Marina can compare them.

As for the buckle - I do not know if it is identical, but if I broke it and needed a quick and easy temporary fix, I'd simply put a wire through the holes on the fixed part of the buckle (the frame) and fixed the rubber band on it - having the other one adjustable would be sufficient. At least for couple of days it should be pretty sufficient solution. You will be probably able to get a spare buckle from a Technisub in the meantime.

Hey trux, from where did you order the Micro mask? I was looking for the damn mask yesterday on net, but couldn't find it - thus ordered a Sphera from amazon.

There are a few online store in the Czech Republic offering it, and they ship also iternationally, though it makes it little bit less interesting. There are couple of links to several online stores above in this thread, but I think you may be able to find even cheaper offers. Some Italian stores I saw offered it quite innexpensive.

hi guys and girls,

my marina starts leaking water when going under 6-7 meters, especially when i start pinching my nose. i am really disappointed. has this happened to anyone? when i give it to other people for testing they say its perfect, they don't leak a single drop.

greetings,
cihus

You really have to watch face movements with the Marina. You might subconsciouly be moving your face. I've got one spot on my face that leaks with almost every mask I've used unless I'm very careful about facial movements.

I took my marina out today and compaired it with my sphera. The Marina is more comfortable for me because the sphera rests on my nose. Both are very streamlined and great with the monofin.

Jon, I think you may be right about the lenses on the Sphera - things definitely seem more colorful with it.

just a word, i wanted another technisub as a backup mask, so i went to where i got my first one, and doh apparently they arent being made anymore.

I shall morn for a long time since none of the omer masks fit my face ill have to dive with this one for the next 40 years or so.

The Marina is now the Micromask. If you read back a bit - they had to retool.
Its widely available in europe so you should be able to find one before long Technisub tells me they are one and the same.

on saturday i am going to a underwater car graveyard 50km from athens and i ll be careful with my facial movements. hope my marina doesnt leak again. i ll let you know how it went :)

Crisis over. :)

I emailed Aqualung and they sent me a new mask buckle for free. Now I have my favorite mask back again and life is good. It's still too bad I didn't have it for my vacation last month, but at least I'll be set for the winter.

Aqulaung/Technisub should really throw an extra buckle, or two, in every mask box because this will not be an isolated incident- and at $120 US for the new version they can easily afford to do so!:head

Great news Jon. Mine's holding up so far. Salmon are in over at my alternate dive site. They are in shallow water. Had to add weight and use bi-fins (yech!) then lurk in the weeds for 2 plus minutes on 3/4 lungfull waiting for them to come in and trying to get my camera to focus through all the haze. (PB for most dives over 2 minutes - 7 - also longest @2'34) Mostly crap pictures though.

Tried an Atomic Frameless - got the medium - skirt is a little too small. Field of view is no better than the matrix - fairly bulky for monofinning. Very well made and comfy - comes with a highly stylish box. Didn't see much advantage so I sent it back for exchange at LP - should be to your benefit sometime soon.

Is it true that the mask Technisub Marina (now Micromask) was originally developed specifically for military Special Forces?

I thought it was developed specifically for freediving by Trevor Hutton?

Jon

Yes, apparently it was a PR move one store, wrote in his website: "The military mask Technisub Marina has been so successful that it is now released for commercial sale (albeit in another" civilian "colors) under the name Micromask."
A mask is really excellent, the best my mask.

From what I know, there is no single official provider of masks for Italian navy special forces. Just like any other diver, each of them pics the mask that fits better on their face, or that is better for the kind of task et cetera.

For the sake of discussion, there is anyway a tight historic link between the Technisub industry and the Italian Navy Special Forces (Comsubin, commando divers and raiders).

The founder of Technisub, commander Luigi Ferraro, was a member of the famous Gamma Men in the 10th flotilla during world war II. After the war he was hired by Cressi as an engineer, and later he started his own company named Technisub. Even now that the company has been absorbed by a french-american Aqualung, Ferraro's son is still a member of the board. When old commander Ferraro died, at his funeral there was a team of Comsubin raiders to carry his coffin.
