If you are a freediver, you will know that this video is virtually impossible to find. It is the record of the freediving experience during the late 1990s. Documenting two major international freediving competitions including the Red Sea Dive Off and AIDA World Cup in Nice 2000, and three world records in three different categories of freediving, Pierre Frolla Free Immersion, Brett Le Masters Constant Weight and Loic Leferme No Limits.
Perfectly selected soundtrack seems to have captured the moments beautifully. Some very young faces. Did Herbert really say he hadnt had sex for a while.....A testament to the early days and to Howard Jones, for those who were there. And just as fittingly.....its filmed as it was.
The records are now beaten and the glory days are over. The Nice comp includes a short piece to camera of Umberto Pelizzari moaning over the judging of the line / depth....was it 57m or 60m? I have no idea but the Italians didnt compete with Aida after that.
Freediving will never be the same and movingly we watch Loics second by second descent to his 152m record with new admiration. As the bright unboxed blue becomes black, why are sad tears always so hot?
So, my copy is for sale. Signed by Howard Jones, number 32. I have no idea how many were produced (maybe 50). The funds will go towards my new adventure as I continue my preparations to swim around mainland Britain next year. Old memories make way for new..............
I watched it again last night for the last time and really wonder why I want to sell it. But sometimes stories need telling, and that doesnt happen if the video stays on my shelf.
So buy it. Watch it. Copy a version onto DVD to keep forever and re sell the video next week.
