Yesterday I got my first Samba. It happened during a max DNF Attemped. I ended up swimming 110m in a 20m pool. New PB. No Black Out. I felt rapid movement in my upper body when I reached the surface. My dive buddy confirmed the samba. He told me that I looked like that I had a hard time to breath. How ever I managed to breath and was fine. I didnt realy felt bad afterwards.

Before the dive I prepared as followed.
I started the session with one easy static to warm up. Than relaxed for at least 5 to 10 minutes. Relaxation was not perfect that day. I wasnt realy getting into a sleepy mode. I dont do normaly breath ups, but I did some mild but deep breath to finaly get relaxed. This was probalby a mistake.

After turning at 60 meters the dive felt not good I told my self to stop at 80m. But when I reached 80 meters I told my self that this is a maximum attemped and I am here to push my limits. Between 80m and 110 I was kind of in a mental tunnel. I just kept swimming until I reached my goal to turn at 100m for the first time.

I assume a lack of relexation, breath up and relaxation during the dive lead mainly to the Samba.

What are your experiences on that topic?

This was my first "accident" in many years freediving. Never BO or had a LMC.

You were pushing yourself, trying for a personal best. Looks like you found it too, at least for that dive session. Good job! As you pointed out, many factors came into play that day, just as it will for all sessions. Maybe next time you will feel everything come together and go even further. And if course, always have your buddy there to save you! If you are always pushing for a new record then you will most likely samba/blackout again. Please be careful.
