What are your thoughts on sleeveless suits for pool disciplines?

I'm sure it can assist with a good streamline in DYN, but do they tend to let more water in or does the arms / shoulders being exposed create a lot more drag in DNF?

I have a larger upper body and short of a custom suit, it is near-impossible to get a fullsleeve one that fits me properly. I was thinking that perhaps a sleeveless can fit my waist, while allowing my chest / back / shoulders / arms a little more freedom. I'm also thinking that a sleeveless might be a little more flexible and assist in getting a good inhale / full-lung of air.

Your thoughts and experiences are welcome!

I have both types and have not noticed much difference at all. I am starting to prefer to wear the sleeveless lately.

Hi,

I have used both types for DYN and DNF. What I found was that the sleeveless worked well for DNF but tended to flood doing DYN, likely from a combination of greater speed and tighter streamlining. Also it depends on the suit, my favourite no arms model was zipless with entry through the arm hole. The zipless style had a better neck seal than an Orca zipped sleeveless model I used.

AA: Its going to be very individual. Some sleeveless suits on some people work great and some are parachutes. I've had both. The best thing I found was an old surfer suit with a good neck seal and lyca short sleeves covering large arm sockets. The combination a good neck seal and the lyca to keep the suit from ballooning was outstanding. The suit was also very good about chest flexibility. When that one wore out, I tried hard to get the manufacturer to make me another one, no dice. Maybe you could find someone to make you a custom one. Ops, now we are back to a custom suit.

Cdavis: this is a 3 YO thread.

I've had 3 sleeveless suits since I posted that... LOL

I love sleeveless, if the fit is proper. Done properly, I find it can assist in a solid DR / blood shift.
