One of the posts that I get more...comments...about. :)

Tipping in Scuba Diving

I wrote it for my students because when I started diving, nobody told me so I was unprepared on my first boat dive.

Cheers!

I don't mind tipping a fair amount for valet dive ops and if i receive specific help from the crew. I don't like tipping on those boats where you are "just buying a seat on the boat" and not getting any specific service -- though it seems in the U.S. that those types will be even more likely to make the "tips speech" during the boat ride.

When in doubt. On most of the boats here in South Florida, the captain is the only one paid. Deckhand and in-water guide work strictly for tips. Now, I will say that on the boats I dive regularly with, you get the service above and beyond. I've never had to worry about anything.

Cheers! :)

Hi Cal, Who do you usually dive with? I've used Walker's and Ocean Quest, both in Palm/Riviera Beach, and had great experiences with both of them.

I've dove with Walkers. I did their Black Water dive. IT WAS AWESOME! Good crew. Nothing bad to say about them at all.

In the Riviera Marina area, I usually dive with Pura Vida Divers. I know a couple of their people and have met the owners. They are good people. They take good care of you.

Up in Jupiter, I dive exclusively with Scuba Works. I instruct for them. I know all of their boat staff and dove with them long before I became an instructor for them. Great people. They spoil you. :)

I forgot to mention Jupiter -- I also dove with Scuba Works on my 1 trip (so far) to Jupiter -- I liked diving with them also!
