I have TMJ. I've learned ways to live with it, but I still get headaches every now and then. Sometimes after I sing or on a plane ride, but this mostly happens after I train for freediving (anything that means holding my breath). I know if I move my tongue on the roof of my mouth like I was making the sound 'N,' it relaxes my jaw.
It is when I am in the water that this doesn't work as well. I was wondering if anyone else who has this problem could give some suggestions...?

Try using the epiglottis as a stop for the air from escaping while diving, if the pressure is not too great to hold in (which usually isn't unless you do dynamics with packing) I find it easier. I don't really know anything about TMJ (teenage mutant ninja).

Excuse my ignorance, but what is TMJ?

By the way, do you happen to have Finnish roots Kati? Just guessing by your name...:)
