I just read my post again and realize that I must sound like a total hypocrite. I post something like this
http://forums.deeperblue.com/hawaii/82619-kill-roi-days.html and then say something like this
:blackeye
I guess the reason I justified the roi killings is that they are not a "natural invasion" but an "introduced" one nor do they help with a "natural balance"... though some may argue against that.
I think it boils down to the fact that I dont believe in senseless killing. If your being hassled by one white tip reef shark, a species very easily intimidated, one that is not good eating, and one that really poses no harm to anyone, I dont see that as a legitimate reason to kill it.
I do agree with jtkwest as far as equality of life. If your going to EAT the shark, and not just the fins, kill it. It is just another fish. Ive just seen too many people who think they are some kind of hero because they have killed a shark, let it sink to the bottom and rott, or parade it around like an olympic medal and then let it stink up some dumpster somewhere. Senseless killing really boils my blood, its wasteful and destructive.
Call it a soft spot, but I like sharks, I have had many experiences with sharks, good and bad, big and small, you want shark stories I have them, but I still firmly believe that I am a visitor in their ocean.
