WORLDRECORD ATTEMPT FREEDIVING

Woensdrecht (NED) – In the weekend of October the 10th up to and including the 12th Ms Renate de Bruyn, sports instructor on Air-force base Woensdrecht and living in Zevenbergen, the Netherlands, will make a world record attempt freediving in the discipline dynamic without fins. The attempt will take place in the 50 meter pool of swimming paradise ‘de Tongelreep’ Eindhoven.

The current world record, which was set on 20 July 2003 by Yamina Enedahl-Mekki (Sweden), stands on 97m. De Bruyn already exceeded this distance during the Dutch Championships in September and reached 98m! She made it her goal to reach at least 100m during her world record attempt. To reach the 100m she has to swim approximately 2 minutes without breathing while delivering great effort to reach this distance.

Outside her work on the Air-force base, Renate is member of Team Immersion. She is supported completely in her challenge by her colleges on the Air-force base as by her team members. With the aid of sponsoring she is able to finance her record attempt. After months of preparation she will make 3 tries to set a new world record. On Saturday October the 11th it is possible for public and media to be present. The attempt on that day will take place between 12:30 and 13:30 in the 50m pool of swimming paradise ‘de Tongelreep’ Eindhoven.

Latest news: this afternoon Renate made a clean 100 mtr, as I just heard from Jorg. Tomorrow she'll go for a 100+

Renate did 104 meters dynamic without fins today... BUT... The heel of her right foot came a little bit out of the water during the turning point at 100 meters. So she got disqualified... She still happy with a new worldrecord of 100 meters. Congratulations to Renate de Bruyn!

Great Congratuations to Renate! This is fantastic. Pity about her heel breaking water though. I guess the rule is there to be able to say that one is completely underwater, because there is no way she could cheat by breathing through her heel! :D

Rules

Congratulations to Renate and her team!

I guess the rule is there to be able to say that one is completely underwater, because there is no way she could cheat by breathing through her heel!
I guess the rule is there not only because of breathing: I think they also want to avoid that somebody swims freestyle without breathing and cracks all the dynamic without fins records.
:)

Best regards
Uli
