Tomba - All in One barrel sealing

Nice Don!
Just have on mind that 30 bars with water barrel is same as 24 bars with vacuum barrel. So be careful. I think the impact of the piston to the shock absorber (and the muzzle!) is more important than the pressure!

Don, 30 bars with Tomba would be like 38 bars without Tomba.

I have already shot the gun with a completely drained barrel about 8 times last summer at 30bar The gun was loaded on the swim step pointed down, quickly leveled off and fired immediately. The only reason I would do this in the future would be to push the added mass of a hand milled winged sliptip I may use for our soft fleshed White sea Bass. If the piston fails repeatedly I have 3 meters of Alpha grad Ti to play with on the test mule.

Cheers, Don

Good to know it is possible.

The plastic piston and shock absorber are unlikely to fail immediately, but could be progressively damaged with extensive shooting using high air pressures in the gun. There is always a safety factor incorporated in the design of such equipment, however pushing the prescribed limits usually shortens service life in some way, though it may take a long time. If you replace the piston with a metal version then you need to use a metal shock absorber as well. Manufacturers replaced metal pistons with plastic versions to reduce galvanic corrosion in the inner barrels. Over a long period of immersion the aluminium inner barrels develop pits as the metal in the piston reacts with the aluminium, you see it first in the last few centimetres of the inner barrel forward of where the seals stop.

Please can you make me a a Tomba conversion end for my mamba, I would like to use my 7mm drilled spear without the slider.
How can I pay you?

Very nice, I have a wedding out of town to go to this week end.
Will have the airbalete in the sea next week for tests.

The wrench flat on the end cap looks like a great place to key a U- shaped
winder body and ratcheting paw assembly on the '' shaft winch''. loader.:friday

Cheers, Don

foxfish, why would you do it? You already have a nice gun with your vacuum system, haven't you? Have you any problem with it? Why do you think Tomba would be better? I think Western Union is maybe the cheapest way for sending money.

Don, I had the same idea about attaching the loader to the gun although the loader is not necessary for the gun with a vacuum system. Waiting for you to be back in the sea.:friday

I have 5 x mamba guns - I would like to own some of your work.
What about Paypal?

Nice! PayPal don"t work in Croatia for receiving money. So, you would like TombaxxF, Mamba to Tomba conversion for 7mm shaft? That could be used with both free shaft and shaft with the slider. And why do you prefer the free shaft, foxfish? Faster loading or ...?

I much prefer free shaft, that system seems to work very well for me I like the simplicity but, I also like the direct line connection to a speared fish.
If you let me know the cost I will get the money to you one way or another

That is what I am afraid of. Tomba is very good, but not so simple like Tovarich, especially not the TombaxxF. It could not be simple because it is One in All sealing system. One system for (almost) All cases. I think I should make you a brand new Tomba system similar to Tovarich so it would be only for free shaft to be as simple as possible. Let me think about it! :friday

I made a new design for you only! I believe it will work very good. It is similar to Tovarich but I think better. Lower friction during loading, longer O-ring life, more durable and simple for use.:friday

Do you think it is safer not to bend or break the shaft?

To be honest most fish I shoot the spear goes straight through & out the other side so the fish ends up toggled - there is then no escape for the fish.
The disadvantage of a front line attachment is you need an extra wrap of line to compensate.

Than you don't need a flopper at all. And what about the range? How does the front attachment of the line affect it? I suppose it is not more than 3 m because the line deflects the shaft.

I have never carried out any test, it is just that I find the system works very well.
If there is any range or accuracy difference it is not noticeable to me but, the loading is much simplified.
