Tomba - All in One barrel sealing

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.

Some details:
Original Mamba 110 cm, 6,5 mm shaft with Tomba10 kit. He uses Omer grease instead of fork oil. Gun on 21,5 bar.
The first fish was shoot on 3,5 mm. He was very happy with the original mamba too, but he says that he like the gun even much more with Tomba.
He even think it is more quiet an of course the shaft is much more hydrodynamic.

from some time i have an a idea to try vacum kit like this one on 90 asso with 8 mm spear and a Trident Matc of Imersion .
Do somebody have an idea what will be the result with 20 atm , what will be the range ?

I suppose it would be better on 25 atm for 8 mm shaft.
 
I dont think you will ever have any long range with a trident head - plenty of power to cut a fish in two but, not much long range accuracy!

My target is 1-5 kgs fish in the range of 3.5 m , have somebody tryed long pneumatic 90-115 with a trident ?
 
I have an expensive titanium trident head, I have tried it on my mamba 90 & my mamba 110. It was hopelessly accurate beyond two meters!
However the fish I did hit at this range were very badly damaged, it worked best on the 90 because you dont need any sort of loader but, the 115 was a long stretch to get your fingers around the trident forks.
A 6.5 spear in a dry barrel 90 give very good range & accuracy & that is my preferred weapon of choice for long range small fish.

Here is a simple table of loading effort with different shafts, wet barrel/vacuum barrel:

It is assumed that the speed of the shaft is same in all cases. Of course, energy is different.

This is for smaller fishes because mono is 1 mm (120 lb).

I don’t have big experience ( just tried second variant ) : I suppose the second one is better, as per your calculations you should add the mono m2 for the first variant also or just calculate the front resistance ?

The problem with second variant is that the mono is making the spear with non-symmetrical drag .

Will be happy to hear someone with more experience of both options.

What should be compared is in red color only. All other is common and same in both cases. I already measured old type Tomba (with the plastic ring next to the O-ring) and Tovarich like TombaF (free shaft version) and got the same result on 5 m distance.

The front cross section of the slider has higher contribution to the friction. Taken 10 x it is about 745 mm2 and still is 1760 < 4700.

What if the mono is connected on the opposite side of the shaft's flopper..? Would the flopper on one side and the mono on the other make the drag somewhat symmetrical steering the flight of the shaft straighter?

I think it would be worse. Maybe better on the same side?
 
I use two different methods of attaching the line to the front of the spear.
One way is a simple hole drilled through the spear & the other is on a slider that is stopped by a ring weld about 100mm back from the tip.
I only use twin barb spears, I believe the spear will rotate or spin when fired, I never bother to place the barbs in any particular position & to be honest never noticed any difference either?
