Tough Question

Hey All,

As some of you know, I posted a while back about wondering if my DYN distances would translate well to depth in CWT. Well, I'm back from a freediving trip and I'm happy to report that I was able to max out at 61 ft over the weekend...but this has raised another question. I've been in contact with Ted Harty, who has said that with my average depths and times from the weekend, I could skip the Basic Freediver course and I would be suited to take PFI's Intermediate Freediver course...but it's expensive. I was planning on buying a new speargun. I'm a student and I'm using my GI Bill to go to school, so I don't have a huge bunch of expendable income. If I choose the freediving course, it'll be 6-8 months before I can afford to buy a new speargun, and vice versa if I choose the gun over the course.

So here's my question: Should I take the course and become a better freediver before buying a new gun, or buy my new gun and take my course whenever I can?

In my opinion, if you already have a gun that more or less fits in with the type of hunting you are planning with the new gun, go for the freediving course.

Being a more skilled freediver will have a bigger impact on spearfishing than a new gun will.

Use the 6-8 weeks needed to earn the the money to practice the new lessons that you have learned (two birds with one stone).

Hi! I just took the level 2 with Ted and soooo far it was the best choice I could make! Before I signed up I was saving money to buy a carbon fiber monofin, I know exactly how it feels and you definitely should invest your money becoming better, efficient and safer freediver. Im not gonna get my
monofin right now but Ted makes every single penny worth, you are gonna learn a whole new freediving world.
