....combine travelling and spearfishing can bring so much exitement.
....but the gear !
the size , weight and amount of gear we want/need to carry with us....always a challenge.
in times where overweight and overzise baggage can easy create an x-amount of expense,
specially when using airplanes for travel.
i had-and know of cases where different airlines had to be used to reach the final destination.
each had different regulations on baggage, and the expenses for oversize/weight had to be paid multiple times.
i am not a gear-whore, and i am a specialist in light travel. i can pack all my gear and personal stuff in one big
dive bag, including two pair of carbonfins, and will stay around the 23kg bag-weight that most airlines allow.
of course i dont travel with lead !
but the problem always start with the spearguns. my 130s with 170cm shaft need always to be packed
and handled as oversize bag.
each way with one airline cost me around 50$ for the oversize bag, while the other airline will charge me around 90$ each way.
thats 280$ for one vacation just to carry my spearguns.
beside that, i had to buy a speargun bag for 90$.
also the travelling on land, either bus, train, bush-taxis or whatever....the lenght of the gunbag will
always create discomfort.
so for years i looked at the option of getting a travel-breakdown-speargun.
as long as i remember there have been the jbl-travel-magnum speargun....
http://www.spearfishingworld.com/jbl-travel-magnum-speargun.html
wich i never considered, because of lots of problems i and others had with jbl-guns.
then some years ago the riffe euro-travel gun came on the market.
i never liked the riffe euro handle, find it very uncomfortable, but the breakdown version of the gun looked solid.
but since it was only available in a 90version,too short,so it was no option for me.
looking at the measurement of that gun, i was asking myself why had they chosen the 90 size ?
the shaft for the 90 is 130cm, so breakdown in half will create two pieces of 65cm.
most divebags can easy hold fins up to 85cm length, so i ve been asking myself for the longest while,
what kept them from offering the same gun in longer sizes, a 120 for example, wich would have a shaft
with 160cm lenght. cut in half leaves it with 80cm, good enough to fit in any reasonable travelbag.
so recently i found out that riffe finally came up with a bigger version of the gun.
even with 5 different sizes, the riffe euro-modular travelgun.

....thats a long write up to come up with a question....
have anyone any experience with that gun ? the original 90 or any of the newer longer models ?
and finally my biggest concern about the whole breakdown concept, how solid will the shaft be ?
i have seen all kinds of shaft bending and breaking over the years, and i fear that a shaft that have
to be screwed together in the middle, can snap at the minimum impact.
any gun-mechanic-expert here have some input on that concept ?
thanks in advance....dive safe..have fun

I really like the C4 Joker for travel (https://dmfreediving.com/products/c4-joker-410)

It comes in two pieces (you can see in this picture http://maverick-america.com/media/c...525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/j/o/joker_410_101_.jpg) and is adjustable length from 95cm to 110cm, so you can change the length depending on the visibility where you're going.

The problem is always the shaft, I haven't seen any that can be broken down in half. Would be a good idea though. I bet you could make a pretty strong one if you had one end thread into the other...
