Hi

Yesterday (21/10/2003) I thought up an excuse to get of from work to go to da beach. I organised a halfday and went to Grotto Bay with my Girlfriend. I wanted to shoot some Hottentot Bream.
I've shot a couple before at this place and since the water was cleanish at some spots I thought that I was in luck.
First suprise came when I got into the water. It was freezing!!! Must have been 10 Degrees Celcius. I dive in a 5mm Cressi Sub 2 piece with Hoodie that covers my shoulders to prevent leakage but I dive with normal gardening gloves because the neoprene ones are to expensive and they don't last me long. My hands were freezing in the water. I dived at the one spot where I'm usually lucky but nothing in sight. I was in for about an hour but nothing. When I came out a wave washed me over a reef. As I went over I caught this greyish movement out of the left of my eye. I thought it was a shark but it was a school of nice big mullets. I couldn't get a shot in cause the water washed me away from them.

I then went to the other side of the bay and tried there. I usually fish here but I also saw nothing.

I did see a couple of big crayfish but since the season is closed I couln't ask them to tag along. I told them to wait exactly a month cause that is when our season opens. Then I'll take out a few nice ones and post pics.

Although I came away empty handed I enjoyed it very much. I was tired (and cold) when I got out but I was like a junkie that got a little fix with a promise of a big one later. So now I just have to wait another month before I can get into the water again.
I'm already foaming at the mouth just at the tought of that.

Cheers Reinier
