Tropol Monofin - a Fondueset Review

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
There are some pictures earlier in this thread. Essentially - more blade angle and I think the pockets and wings are molded as a single piece.

The M4 is 15-19 degrees - depending on how you measure it. The M5f will be 28 degrees.

The pockets are molded so standard sizes and angles only.

The stuff they are made from is extremely durable and comfortable.

When I last spoke with Lubos at Tropol he said they found they needed to do more retooling than they'd initially thought - so they need to raise a little money first.

I've very happy with my M4 though. When I finally burn this one out I'll order another if the M5 is not out yet.

Just an update.
After diving with my beautiful Starfins all summer I switched back to the Tropol for awhile.

They are two very different fins. The Starfins is soft - for long recreational dives, and is sized for 5 mils socks.

The Tropol is hard and best with no socks - in cold water I put socks OVER the footpockets and so far this is working very well.

So there is no competition between these fins - since they are made for different purposes. Both are superb.

My Tropol is still holding up very well and is quite comfortable with the outside socks. My feet stay warm for hours and the long footpocket places no pressure on the toes - which is especially good in cold water. I've been using it for my pool workouts and open water dives. It's very easy to do 25m in the pool in five or six kicks with no weights and maintaining good speed to stay down. The Tropol is much heavier than the starfins but it has a lot of authority in the water.

After a good, long time of heavy use I still really like this fin. I prefer it for pool workouts and depth - because of the hard blade and weight - particularly now that I've switched to a thicker suit for winter diving. Last weekend I took it for a couple easy dives to 31m out here in the bay - surface temp was 13c and about 8 at depth. Interestingly the visibility at 30m is very good, despite being dark from the less clear water above. Kind of an erie feeling down there.

Hi Fondue and DB

Glad to hear that the M4 still holds water.

Regarding the M5 fin, which is probably the most sleek "facelift" of the hyperstyle fin ever, I´ve been writing Lubos Polak every once in a while and always got a response back. Unfortunately the answer is the same: Waiting for some new technology.

I really hope Tropol figure out a solution, and maybe our support can give that little extra push ;)

Very best regards
H!

True, now you mention, I realize you wrote this before. Hope they find it.

Very best regards
H!

from what you guys describe, i take it there is no m5 fin to be released in the near fututre ? the pictures of it on their site look really sexy.
do you know if Tropol offer the m4 in carbon too ?
thanks for the help and input.

Hi Noa - late reply. Yes I believe Tropol is offering Carbon fiber - if not now then quite soon. Also they are working on a lighter version of the M4 footpocket.

(ps - anyone looking at this thread - I re-organized my photo site - so the pictures have all vanished! If there is demand I'll add them back on here at the end.)

FYI - I now do 25m dynamics in two kicks (almost 1! sometimes) on half a breath with no weights or suit. 4-5 on full lungs. This is my favorite pool fin.
