This an open and ongoing thread for planning trips and reporting experiences from Twin this year. If you subscribe to it then you'll always know when any of us are planning to go!
Me and the Bro-in-law went out to see last weekend May 16. The lake had ice on it the week before, so it was shot in the dark so to speak, but we thought 'what the hell'... a bad day diving is better than many other days not diving. The park was full of moronic trailer-trash playing either brainless techno or hayseed music in their 4x4s, plus making huge disgusting messes of beer cans in their campsites, so I only camped one night then left. Saskatchewan is smart in that they make May long weekend a dry-camp law (in Meadow Lake Park anyway), so the f##kheads stay home and bother the other trailer-dwellers. In Alberta $$ rules, so no such rule unfortunately.
The top 10 metres of water had about 1 metre vis, not surprising since the lake was still 'turning'. I was diving below that to the end of my floatline (about 18 metres) and the vis was much better, but no fish to be seen. They are still hiding down deep, waiting for the temperature to change and weeds to start growing in the top 5 metres.
I was cold in about an hour- I think the water was around 5 or 6C, no fish on the stringer, but got to carry the new gun around It's a Beuchat Carbon 95, meaning it's actually a 100, meaning it's too big for the lakes, so I'm ordering a Rob Allen 70 from Jimdoe in Fla.
See you all soon I hope.
