Hi all - I’ve gone back to diving after many years away, I was well on my way to becoming a commercial diver in my mid twenties but ended up signing to record label and have spent the last 20 odd years as a musician and filmmaker (slight change of course..!). I live on the west coast and swim open water a lot as the water here is still too murky to dive (it’s like cold, salty tea) but more recently I’ve been feeling the pull of the deep again. The idea of SCUBA or rebreather clutter and technical elements (along with cost!) is putting me off and freediving has been a world I’ve been decimated since my brother got a hooky copy of The Big Blue in 1989. I’d love to learn to spear fish but possibly go for scallops, crabs and lobster. I’m guessing my nearest dive spots at Exmouth (an hour away - I’m heading there later today for two nights, incidentally - if anyone there fancies a pint to help educate me..!) or towards Ilfracombe (I’m unsure where the viz clears up along that coast - near Watchet, Blue Anchor?).

Anyway - if anyone is in this areas and would be glad to help me with any aspect at all (gear, rigging, fishing, diving etc) I’d love to buy beer/food whatever in return to help me get started - if only a little bit, before the winter kicks in - so I can hit the depths kicking when Spring comes along? TIA!
