umberto's course next month

HI,
Umberto is hosting a freediving course in Sharm el sheikh next month, although i am mainly spearfishing, i will go to improve my technicque with one of my buddies, just wandering if anyone was joining the course or will be in Sharm next month maybe we could meet..

great idea. And if you tell Umberto that you are spearos, he will possibly join you: I know he loves it. More: he's become mad about spearfishing in the last years.

yeah, i will definitely tell him, too bad it is strictly forbidden in Sharm maybe he can teach us a thing or two about aspettos ( iknow he does aspettos at 50m !!!!)

Damn i just got back from a freediving course in Dahab i got my 2 star and 3 star license.

Id love to do a course or training dives with Umberto too just to see the different styles of teching.

When exactly is his course? Can i have all the info please?

Do u think its a good idea to take this course or would it be a waste of money since i already just took AIDA ** and AIDA*** courses?

I don't think a course with one of the best freedivers in the world would ever be a waste of money, no matter how many other courses you've done. And if i'm right in assuming the English translator is Will Trubridge, then you're getting 2 champs for the price of 1.

I'm kicking myself - i'm heading back to Australia for a visit when the course is on. Oh well, next time....

What im trying to say is should i be kicking myself in the ass for not knowing about this course... as i have just taken AIDA ** & *** with someone else?

Linda& Lotta please dont take this the wrong way... i really enjoyed taking the course with u guys... it was top notch. All im saying is it would be great taking a course with world champ )

i guess it all depends on what your goal is, mine is to imrprove my technique so that i could improve spearfishing skills, i think if i took the course with any certified aida institue it would suffice my needs and definitely improve my technique, but the temptation that umberto is coming to egypt was too hard to resist all my respect to other freediving instructors
its also a great way to take your mind off work and stuff for a few days

I've done a couple of courses here and there, and know a few instructors around the traps and my opinion is that everyone is different - you'll learn something different from all. So I guess they all complement each other in the big scheme of freediving knowledge and experience.

But also don't underestimate the opportunity of diving with a bunch of new people in a different place - that's one of the things I love the most about freediving, meeting like minded people and sharing great experiences with them.

I just called them but didnt quite understand what the guy ment.... he said they're fully reserved and that the only few places available are on the 5th of November!?!

Also, is the 565 euro including the hotels etc...

I did one of Umberto's Stage courses in July 2004, and I had never freedived in my life. The whole experience changed my life. Despite the fact that he is an ex world record holder, more importantly, he is humble and an excellent teacher. The approach of the Apnea Academy is different to A.I.D.A. so in theory you can not make a comparison. You will learn a different approach to freediving, but most importantly, you will hopefully see things from another perspective. To obtain knowledge and understanding of your subject requires an open mind and you will be an all-round better freediver as a result, I am sure.

Well the other courses i took before were the AIDA 2* and 3*. You cant really compare both together and say one is better than the other cuz they are both excellent.

I think its a great idea to do both.

This course had a lot of hands on excersises and a lot of time in the water with a bunch of theory about different stuff. But was mainly diving tecniuqes, breathing and relaxation.

AIDA on the other hand felt like it had more in depth theory and a lot of stuff about safty and rescue which i really liked and also had alot of water time. But i like how the stress on the safty buddy system.

Im gonna continue with AIDA and do the 4* course hopefully sometime soon.

Just a little correction.

You did not have a course from Umberto but an intensive weeklong workshop covering a broad aspect of freediving the Apnea Academy way. Thats why it is impossible to compare with a regular AIDA course. And yes , get as much workshops/courses from as much different schools/methodologies as possible. They all have something to teach you and this way you can find what type of teaching suits you best.

If you take an official AA certification course (which lasts much longer that the 1 week intensive) you will get more indepth theory and much much more about safety/resque etc (depending on the level . 1 ,2 or 3)

Currently you can only follow the AA courses in a limited number of countries. Mostly Italy , but since this years international instructor course also in some other countries , including the Netherlands (with us ;-) )
